On the heel catching thing, could you not (once the cattle are in) slide a bar across the back about 2ft from the rear gate and about 3ft off the ground?

That would nudge them well above their hocks before the rear gate could catch their heels. A bit like the bar you would slide in behind a cow in a cattle crush.

They use a similar idea in those "chicken tractors" so you don't run over recalcitrant chooks, usually a bit of curtain-wire at the rear of the enclosure works for birds.

A bit of wire rope with an eye and hook would work for cattle, have a bit of "give"?

Good idea. Means I can leave it fitted and open and close it easily during loading

Would be as good as a 6 foot hurdle to a trained cow.

Collecting tonight and cutting down drawbar to suit. @the-mad-welder I have galv chain and some hooks so we can cut to correct length and then take a final photo for the folks !

Had a calf with pneumonia this morning stuck it in little trailer mother trotted on behind, this thing would be mint for that as once in no escape ! Needs a little floored area at front for calf to sit in .

Yes I've even seen some with a small chequer plate box at front. With a calf in the front the cow would almost certainly follow too (well a Hereford or Galloway, not so sure about black elephants)

This one is obviously a feeding platform but maybe for my circumstance and type, a small calf box on hang off brackets would be ideal as and when needed

Just be done with it and get one with a floor like this that turned up yesterday. Ordered ages ago.

Does it still have the granular steel floor ?

Bet mine is cheaper and more functional !

Yes the wheel arches are a lot less intrusive than the one we traded in.
Got the rubber coated floor.
I changed it after being pleasantly surprised at the quote last autumn for the cost to change the 11 year old predecessor.

Love your wagon and the whole idea.
I've still got some items that @the-mad-welder made when he was an apprentice, so should be okay.

Happily yes. Only one BMW with a lady driver too busy to slow and then had to rub her white bodywork (car's) in the hedge a bit. It was a double shunt to get in to the yard gate at home !
