This guys home place in Northern Ireland is about 10mins from me lolThese guys are worth looking at. They're not doing huge yields by US standards but milking sensible 3 way crosses

I've got 20 red crosses that have just calved this spring and another 20 to bull next month but I'm not planning on using any more until I see how these get on. For lower input systems it's easy to find Irish and NZ black and white bulls that transmit jersey like milk proteins but I'm nervous the reds will drop my solids more than I'd like.
Hard to know until you’ve a couple lacerations out of themInteresting....

Absolutely spot on . Crash helmet and Kevlar body amour required with some of those.Hard to know until you’ve a couple lacerations out of them
Are they Hilltown Obliques by any chance? Mine are very lively too!
What's more interesting is the fact they are getting rid of all pure and cross bred Jersey, that's if I heard correctly.

Despite having an ever increasing proportion of mongrels we still have a surprisingly uniform herd. The crosses are definitely 50-100 kg heavier but somehow they're not actually that much bigger.

Are you milking any Joseph’s yet?
People forget that the first crosses are great but at some point you have to back cross this is where you get very poor animals which is a far inferior to the pure breedsThese guys are worth looking at. They're not doing huge yields by US standards but milking sensible 3 way crosses

Really, we've been a xbred herd since we started dropped the shorthorns, maybe 40 years ago and the wheels haven't dropped off yet, just need clear breeding goals and don't do it half hearted.People forget that the first crosses are great but at some point you have to back cross this is where you get very poor animals which is a far inferior to the pure breeds
Im only going by my experience in both dairy beef and sheep im not saying backcrosses are useless but they have been far inferior to the pures or straight first and second crossesReally, we've been a xbred herd since we started dropped the shorthorns, maybe 40 years ago and the wheels haven't dropped off yet, just need clear breeding goals and don't do it half hearted.
Let’s not forget the entire country of NZ. Obviously uncrossed herds there but a lot of crossies too. Here we use a lot of crossbred semen and jersey. The NZ Fresian is larger than a lot realize.Really, we've been a xbred herd since we started dropped the shorthorns, maybe 40 years ago and the wheels haven't dropped off yet, just need clear breeding goals and don't do it half hearted.
Cracking cow. Wonder why she's not in calf to a dairy bull? These guys are worth looking at. They're not doing huge yields by US standards but milking sensible 3 way crosses
