We are, old picNice cow, thought you were spring calving?
Old picIs she destined for the gold top sale?
on our few pure jerseys, the biggest problems, are stubborness, and to damn nosey, they just have to know whats happening, having said that, they are aggressive grazers, and usually first out the yard/field, but admit to preferring jersy x.
completely different brain, they are nice quiet cows, easy to handle, great grazers, decent size, and not so nosey as a jersey, we had a herd of them, 150 plus jerseys. The problem was the holstien, and guernsey society, milk price, and maintenance, nothing different to our other herd of 170 b+ws, except calf, and barren price, couple that with the failure of the guernsey soc, to move with the times, meant good bulls were 'unavailable', hence the change to b+w. It's a great shame, because those guernseys, were kept on seriously dry ground, and would produce milk, on strip fenced standing hay, which, as more hols appeared, buffer feeding, tmr became the norm. The other big reason was johnes, seemed to be rather common, in them !What's the differences between a Jersey and a guernsey?
Milk fever? A Jersey speciality.
