Trace element.

I forgot to say that I also use quite a bit of calcium drench on older cows once they've calved. I probably could use less but it's just insurance, a drench cost a £1 or 2 and takes 30seconds in the parlour. Feking about with down cows wastes a lot of time.
Is that aggars drench?

Ok how are you finding them , for feet etc and yield

Vary in size from huge with an arse like Kim Kardashian (sp?) to just a bit bigger than our biggest Jerseys. Feet are ok and they have no problems calving (yet). Yield over 9000 with more than acceptable solids.
Settled down from being a bit jumpy (they came from a Danish Tie stall system) to being a bit dopey/docile now - you have to nudge them to move them and we are happy with them. To make them smaller, though, we are crossing to Jersey

This produces a calf more like 50 kg at birth although we do some pures to keep stock in the herd.

Are the Danish poorer at calving ease? Mate has pedigree herd and uses blues over anything he doesn't want to breed from and doesn't seem to have any calving problems. Personally find more calving problems with Angus than the Herefords over our monkey cows.

TBH we rarely have to help any cow/heifer calve unless it's a breach or leg back and they are rare. Finger in the air, I would say that we help between 5-10 a year if that and the only time we have had to do any caesarians (other than the occasional blue back in the day) was when we took part in embryo transplants using US Holstein embryos in heifers. Not a success
