Considering upgrading from 1100 to jf 1350, to pick up three swarths and to speed up the operation, 1100 is getting worn also, currentily picking up with 6930 presume I will need 200 hp plus, dont want spfh due to maintenace costs. Any opinions?

Had clients who clubbed together and were foraging as a trio. Chopper came up for renewal, looked at other options, ie JF and the like, plumped for second hand Claas self propelled. Never looked back. Comfortably do more in a day so less time all around sat in the seat. Helped that they already had twin rotor rakes and decent buckrake outfit.

Different if you have the staff on hand and a big tractor on farm already though but you know what a 200hp tractor going flat out all day is like on fuel and the like. Chopper meanwhile purrs along and they reckoned used less fuel into the bargain. The only risk is something expensive going bang as parts prices aren't cheap.

6930 only burnt 2.5-3 litres per acre picking up last week ollie , doing 40 acres per day.

Only going by what I was told. I've never worked on or alongside a trailed chopper before, only self propelled. I know some people are quite happy doing 40 acres a day, for other people that represents near 10 days work and they simply couldn't spare the time as it takes them away from milking and other stock work.

I know farmers from both ends of the spectrum- got so much kit they go contracting with it, others would get a contractor in to spread their fertiliser most years. There is no solution that fits everyone.

If the harvester is genuinely the limiting factor then the likes of a 1350 on a 200hp - 250hp tractor is going to see an upgrade in output.

If the trailers are small, silo access poor or if the loading shovel struggles money could be spent elsewhere.

You could also have a look at a Lely Storm, they can chuck grass for fun.

Although the JF looks to be made from Rover tins in comparison the JF is mostly chains and cheap blades.

Have blowup with either and I know which one will be back working the quickest for the least money.

The Lely Storm is a very impressive machine. Give it more power and it simply gives more output.
On the older models the pick up and shear bar were holding up the speed of harvest. Now it is not an issue.

How do u find the krone mower? Why a center pull and not a side pull? How good is the auto swather
We like the mower it’s centre pull so we can work the field up and down as it keeps the rows neat and is easy to work out we still go up and down and we now have rtk. We’ve only once had the grouper not work and that was really wet fresh growth 1st cut. 2nd and 3rd cut it’s far superior to a rake doesn’t rake stones up and is done at mowing so less passes also it doesn’t dry out too quick and it goes up the forager so much smoother and faster. In first cut it can be hard to dry so if it’s wet we lift single swaths. Not had trouble until I noticed a crack yesterday in the bracket that holds grouper to the frame

Thats the beauty of jf for this years 1st cut only turned cutting bar 7 new knives and two roll pins a couple of chain joiners and off went so she is cheap to run.

Tidy looking, can you get a good wilt with the grouper and are the swaths tight enough for a trailed machine?

My JF 900 will do 30ac no bother on a fettled TM140 in heavy one cut crop, starting at 10 and going to 8pm with a stop for lunch.
Mates 1050 on a 6930 has done 50ac on a big day a couple of times 40 plus being the norm.
I'd be expecting a 1350 on 200hp + should easily do north of 50-60ac in the heavy one crop silage we have, more if its smaller cuts.
Decent roads, good 14ton or more trailers and fast turn rounds have as much to do with output as the forager.
