Hi guy's, I have a small hobby farm and I am looking to buy a small tractor for topping, harrowing, rolling and a small bit of ploughing. I was looking at a John Deere 2040s or a Case 1294. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

2040s parts should be available through main dealers or alternatively Nick Young tractor parts. Always use John Deere coolant in the radiator otherwise you will be looking at major engine surgery. It will be perfect for your requirements 2wd 2140 here in the1980’s ploughed with a 4 furrow, 3m power harrow , drilling, baling as well as hauling 10t trailers. Good old bus that I spent many happy hours in.

Feb 2000 I bought I bought 1985 JD 2040 for £2250 after haggling, it had been neglected and needed repairs to puh frame underneath and rear wheel rim but turned out to be good investment... I enquired about using John Deere ready mix coolant and was told no need , use ordinary anti freeze at 50:50 mix
