John Deere 3050 - novice question

Resurrecting this thread once again... Thank you to all those who have answered previously, the tractor is still going well and I'd be lost without it.

I've got a really poxy question this time. Can anyone tell me the part number or where to get the little bolt that screws into the window frame at the side so that the windows can be held open (or shut)? One of mine fell out, and is lost. I've replaced it with an old bolt, but it isn't ideal as the window is now wedged open. I need the proper thing with the right sized head so that the window catch slides over it.

If anyone knows if it's a generic part and can point me in the right direction of where to get one, I'll be very grateful.

Thanks,
NP.

JD Parts is your friend here. It'll give the part number for this. Maybe try a few breakers as well? I know the part you mean but can't picture it immediately. Will have a look at mine tomorrow and if a generic part will let you know.

The stud that screws into the pillar is just a piece of round stock with a thread on one end. Get a bolt with the same thread and screw it in, then cut the head off it, leaving about an inch sticking out. Take it out of the pillar and smooth off where you cut the head off, and give it a nice radius so it can't cut you. Then screw it back in, tighten with a vice grip, and pop the plastic handle over the end of the new stud.

Been a while since I have updated this thread, but I still have further novice questions to ask...

When selecting gears on the high/low/reverse lever, there is a bit of a grinding noise whilst the clutch is down. The tractor also starts to move even with the clutch fully down. The 1-4 box all seems to be working properly though.

The above is intermittent. I can't imagine it's not going to get worse though. What is it likely to be? I assume it's the clutch but don't know enough about it to understand why it's only happening some of the time?

The Range gears have no synchronisers and so will grind a little. Make sure the tractor is stationary to change range. From rest, engage range before the speed gear..

Thank you very much for this @Tractortech . I checked and it's all okay. Phew - I assumed something expensive was on the cards, but for whatever reason I must have started changing gear in a different order.

Thanks again,

Here we go again...

I have managed to break the levelling box on the rear linkage. It was always a bit cronky and now part of it has fallen off.

I watched a video of Lord Muck's where he was fiddling with the height of the rear arms on his 3350 and he didn't have a levelling box - both arms had the twisty thing instead.

So - does anyone know of anywhere I might be able to get a second hand levelling box or possibly the parts for the other side?

The bit missing is the bar that goes from the box section handle bit into the universal join. However I think whatever is below the UJ is knackered as when it was intact it never worked all that well - it was a bit hit and miss as if the gears were very worn.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what I need to do will be gratefully received, as ever.

Thanks,
NP.

Back again... So i have removed the front linkage from the tractor and sold it. I didn't have any use for it, perhaps I'll regret it later but hey ho.

Something I want to do is make up a frame for the front to carry either a toolbox or to sit the FanJet on.

Looking at the JD partsfinder, it looks like the bolts that go into the side rails are 5/8s? I got a couple of apparenlty 5/8s bolts but they are fractionally too large. Are there variations does anyone know? Something that got me thinking this is that if you Google photos of a 3050, the front weight block only has one place to attach. On my one I've got a choice of two different heights for it, so has mine got a thicker chassis for some reason? So here's a random Google image of one:

And here's mine, with the block bolted into the lower position. Mine's a 1991 model, so did later ones have a thicker chassis, and potentially a different size bolt for holding front linkages etc. on? And if so, can anyone tell me what it is please?

Thanks for any useful help, as ever.
