Just bought a real nice 4240s but would like a set of front mud guards to go on her, thought I'd put it out there in case any one has a set laid in the shed some where that they would like to sell.

Hi Masseyman

Yes I thought nick young might have some but unfortunately they have had a clear out of old stock and no longer have anything, can still buy the frames etc from Jd but can't get the cast mounts any more.

I will keep trying something will turn up

My dad had one of these brand new in 1985 I was 12 yrs old and loved driving it , new I had to own one just waited for the right one to come along.
Here are some pics, nice one of a Jd line up at my local dealer different bonnet lines old to new.

What a lovely specimen, lovely looking tractor that.
Better than money in the bank.

Sg2 cab must of been heaven compared with sitting on a crawler all day.

Did any body have the extra fuel tank on their 4240s I dont think it was a John deere extra I'm sure it was aftermarket, my dad had one on his which he mounted a tool box on top of, only seen one other like it in a picture.

Definitely could have done with one. Neighbours had a 4440 which they had mounted an ex lorry tank on the front.
Best thing was having air con meant you could keep the windows shut and not go home as black as the ashes you were stirring up.
Still something about driving a crawler though!

I know you've only just bought her but if you ever decide to sell her please tell me

Just at Peasemore, where are you based? She looks a peach, wish I had never sold mine, had it from new until 2002
