John Deere 441r

Chain tensioner pulley clamps only welded one side so that they break, wreaking cogs, roller stub axles and chain. Stones break off comb fingers that are only tack welded above the knives. Non generic roller bearings only available from Deere at horrific prices. Stub end under sized roller shafts flex and break, most frequently on the bottom of the door (why not a full length through shaft???). Sides that need jacked apart and axle attachment points strengthened

All issues carried over from the preceding 578. Only design improvement was the drop floor instead of rotor reverser. Comb got moved further back into the chamber to accommodate deep floor and it did rectify forage wrapping around the rotor in long sticky stuff, but missing roller meant dry straw was still a nightmare

Had a pre production prototype here. Made a very nice shaped bale, but the poor design and engineering (often wonder if it's deliberate, oddball bearings definitely were) meant I've never since then owned another Deere

I had a lucky escape a few years ago then, thought the 545 belt baler I had would stop me ever buying another JD baler.
But a good mate was selling for smallridges and let me use a 441r for a few days and I was impressed with the bales it made.
Couldn’t bring myself to do it tho and bought another Welger 🤐
Don’t know why they bother making balers, can’t seem to get it right.
