John Deere 6320 PTO engagement

Can the PTO on a JD 6320 be 'feathered' in on startup, rather than relying on the brief soft start? A chap I know keeps breaking shearbolts when he sets a machine off (I'd rather he didn't resort to a harder bolt, too).

TIA

We have a 6230 std and I find that if you slowly pull the PTO button upwards and inot position it engages a lot more smoothly and slowly than just popping it up quickly. Maybe its just a trick of the mind but it does seem better.

Now Then..
There is no calibration on a 20 series PTO. Modulation is achieved with a valve on the back, behind the solenoid valve. I had one once with a broken spring in it causing similar.
The switch has a microswitch in it, I can't see moving it slowly making any difference, but like you say, it could be a trick of the mind, eh

Are the 6430s prone to have a fast start on the PTO, I have a neighbor with a newholland and has gone through 2 spline shafts on a baler because of it, Shouldn't all tractors have a soft start?

Suspect some are worse than others. My 6320 Is certainly better than my 6210 was

If he got keen.. and had a few ideas. He could fit an extension hose off the pto modulation valve pressure port and that would probably make the start a little slower. As to how long the hose would need to be that would be a shed experiment.

Surely a small accumulator in that line would be the best bet.
