Itā€™s not really that the Mc Hale is heavier than the competition either now, looking at the stats of a few mounted 3 metre mowers there is not a lot to choose between them.
I think the balance of the McHale is more of a problem than the total weight.
The Pottinger equivalent is 200kg lighter and it's fine without counterbalance weights on a lightweight 120hp 6 cylinder tractor.

Agree with this about pottinger.

We have a older pottinger novacat 305 (2010), and is no issue on our 5150, with zero extra weights and standard (on the slim side by today's standards) tyres.

Does make the front end a bit fun in transport position šŸ˜†

I have had a 1350, then a 530 and now on a 630.

Plus points of 530/630 over a 1365
Not as wide on the road
Lift higher
Cut cleaner, will cut very short grass without spitting it out the side
Can cut faster
The bed can be fixed as its in sections also disc hub will shear to protect bed unlike 1365 which if anything goes wrong with is a whole new bed
The mower can be run behind tractor for short periods so can steer round poles ect
Downsides
630 more expensive
1365 leaves tidier bout
The triple pto guard from mid point in drawbar to gearbox usually craps itself at some point(every 3 -4years!)
The 530 has all discs pulling into the middle rather than alternating and i think it excessively wears the conditioner tines in the middle of rotor
The 630 has the new cast tines and so far so good after 3 seasons, time will tell!
The 530/630 have the side wings angled down, get them altered so they sit higher to avoid trailing grass (for some reason the 730 center pivot has straight wings so not an issue)

Thats my honest user opinion and the mower probably cuts about 500ac a year.
Any questions, feel free to message

Thank you, that sounds like the answer I was looking for. I will keep looking and maybe advertise my Mc Hale.

had a 830 for 3 years now , the only reason we got the 3Meter was because they dont make the wide spreading kit in the 835.
always had center pull mowers , gives you so much more options .
filled up the tyres on it with water though , to stop it lifting up when you turn to fast on a sloping headland.
program the HMS to lift it , turn it and set it down again and mow from one side to the other...
modular cutter bar is easy to repair as well

530 side pull ,730 centre pivot you can mow either way
630 and 830 the current versions . Only real difference is they changed conditioner tines to pre loaded cast tines instead of free swinging steal V tines. Swivel headstock is slightly different too.

The 1365 has a completely separate chassis from the bed so the mower is built very strong. Shafts and the arm are attached to the mower on the left hand side of stood behind it. The 530/630 are a different chassis arrangement. The drive/arm is mounted in the centre of the mower but only cut to one side. But means it has a narrow transport width.

The 730 is a centre mount that cuts both sides.

530/630 are side pull mowers like the 1365. The main difference is the drawbar on 5/630 is attached to the centre of the machine where the 1365 its attached to the side. According to john deere it pulls more straight across slopes and stops it crabbing as much. The 7/830 are the true center pivot mowers for mowing back and foward.

Do JD mowers still have narrow tyres? Last time I saw one it looked about same size as a land rover tyre as opposed to the wide tyres on most modern mowers.for tgat reason alone I would not entertain a JD mower.
