Looking at the above just under 10 k hours. Had it appraised by jd expert , ok , but needs head gasket and some play (20mm) in rock shaft, front axle diff and tls just been overhauled. Not much else ever done to it apparently.
At these hours should I run a mile or are these tractors ok for a few more hours?

Did he measure the wheel bearings???. Easy and saves lots on undiagnosed repairs.

Contractor bit away from here has a few 30 series and 1 has 17k odd hours and another with 19k odd hours. Seen them carting grass this summer stil goin strong and to say they do hard work would be an grosse understatement. Always flat to the mat with big trailers/tankers and would literally be out workin everyday of the year so wouldnt be a bit scared of that tractor

It depends if it’s otherwise tidy and priced accordingly. Rockshaft kit, head gasket and brakes (assuming they’ve not been done) are going to be £2-3k+ straight away.
No reason it shouldn’t do high hours after, but price will need to be right, as ever.

I guess measuring the bearing at every service can save you potentially having to remove and replace the trans pump on your pq or ivt transmission... up too you if you want to save a few k and down time.

Also when you are buying a sec hand tractor its always nice to know what you are going to be spending on it instead of stumbling along fixing fxxkups during the season.

You can measure the wheel bearing all you want but they will go at some point, not a big job to do them

That’s the fear , the unknown of continual breakdowns or faults , but thinking if engine is done , and everything else seems ok , maybe we will be right as we only add a roughly 500 hrs a year .
Just have to avoid investing to much in a tractor of that hours as it will not have much resale value.
Flip side is , if it runs reliably for a few more years then it’s cheap hp , especially considering we are small and our budget is not very big . Maybe one day we could afford a low hour or new one , but just not an option at the moment.

A few sales coming up with some nice looking jd in them . Can the budget stretch a bit to find a genuine off farm sale , instead of a fuuuked trade in , we where looking for another last spring after losing one in a fire , ended up buying two older ones one high hours off a forum member , 25 year old but immaculate and very well looked after , and a very low houred one off a small fen farm , only ploughed and cultivated 60 acre of silt land every year
They are out there , just keep looking
