About 20,000 acres less than my MF30 .

I could make a set of discs last my lifetime if I only put a couple hundred acres a year in with it

I'm more than happy with metal wear cost, I think it worked out at about 25p / ac on the last set

and somewhat of a relief compared to the 32k I spent on solo wearing metal the last year we ran a deep cultivator. That was before any drill metal costs either

ask a CS user what they cost in discs / seed boots etc <canofwormsopen> !

Never had a big problem with slot closure but put guttlers on about 5 years ago, I am not sure now if it was worth it.

However for this drilling season I put on the spoked gauge wheels to see if I could overcome the pain of skinned knuckles digging out blocked clay. Admittedly it has been a dry autumn in Oxfordshire but you could see the soil picking up and falling out from between the spokes rather than build up and cause disc or gauge wheel stall.

I tend not to use the JD750 in the damp, I like to wait or if I am very keen to get on I also have a Weaving Sabre Tine. However, these spoked wheels have extended my JD750 drilling window, and it being my go to drill for its excellent seed placement and lack of soil throw have made life much easier.

im not sure spoked wheels would be any advantage really on most of my soils, we managed ok in 2012 and I really cant imagine drilling in wetter conditions than we had that year can be a good idea ?

They are certainly no disadvantage and if I could spec them form new I would go for them but can't see value in buying a set for our situation

No nor me. I can block them up now and again but pretty rare.

You spent £32k on wearing metal for one machine in one year?:eek::eek:

afraid so ! (it was in 3 months actually !)

lets not even think about the fuel bill that went along with that !

But over how many acres? That's the main thing, got to be relative.
Still a lot of money on parts though I know.
Also what year, was it very dry, 2011?

Many years ago my father bought a set of plough points. The dealer wondered why he didn't buy a few sets while he was there, the local soil would wear out a set a day, my father pointed out that a few miles further away the points only needed turning after the first year and would have the remains of the last set welded on to last the third year. I dread to think what the individual part costs of wearing parts would be if they lasted as long on all farms.
