Many years ago my father bought a set of plough points. The dealer wondered why he didn't buy a few sets while he was there, the local soil would wear out a set a day, my father pointed out that a few miles further away the points only needed turning after the first year and would have the remains of the last set welded on to last the third year. I dread to think what the individual part costs of wearing parts would be if they lasted as long on all farms.
Same here, almost no sand or stone so rust is more of a problem than wear.
A set of ransoms cast points would do over 800 acres on a six furrow reversible (not used it for years but still plenty of metal left).
Strange thing is disc harrows showed the same lack of wear but discs on my drill are half worn after 700 acres and the coulters are shot and have been repointed once already.
