My first day yesterday with a JD System so no advice but I think I may just wait for my own JD to return tomorrow with the Trimble setup.

What dome are you getting or got ?

We drilled for 3 yrs on sf1 with a 3000 dome now drill on sf1 with a 6000 dome and it's better .
The older 3000 dome was fine you do need to give it a bit of overlap on sf1 8cm was fine on the older dome 4cm is fine on the newer one and you don't get many if any wide joints.

How small?

We're drilling 1200 acres on sf1 very happy with it .
We've tried sf2 before with the 3000 dome and didn't see enough difference to want to pay for it .

We're drilling on sf3 yesterday and today did half a field on sf1 then onto sf3 so will see if it's any much better

You can keep typing RTK as much as you want but some folk don't want need or could justify the costs involved. Sf3 is supposed to be 4cm now RTK will be very good but not that much better

I admit I'm also writing RTK everywhere repeatedly but I don't agree with the "not much better" claim. But farmers have different views, different accuracy expectations and some are very happy with the less accurate options. I'm one who cannot understand how anyone can accept anything less than RTK for drilling.

It is just unfortunate that RTK is considered expensive. With a bit of effort one can build a private base and no or minor annual costs after the first investment. Pays back in a couple of years and gives instant absolute accuracy in addition to sub inch pass-to-pass accuracy.

We’re drilling on sf1 with no problems .

Please define "no problems"? I'm sure you manage with SF1 when you say so. So do many farmers manage without SF1, without any auto-steer systems. If you only use SF1, you must keep watching after drift, not only when starting the field but also during the work. I'd consider that a significant stress that can be avoided. Perhaps more convenient than driving manually, not sure.

I'm actually glad if people find other than RTK sufficient but I don't like it when signals like SF1 or SF3 are claimed to be "almost like RTK".

For me I can see where RTK will come into it's own for veg etc everything is worked down level and firm .

For us drilling 1 pass onto soft ploughing RTK won't be able to give the exact accuracy that is possible of it . If it was rolled/pressed it would be a different story .
If we weren't drilling on sf1/3 we'd be doing it manually so what we have is perfectly capable of doing what we want

I drill everything on sf1 including beet, have been doing for the past 15 years and can’t see the need to go sf2/3 unless your planting drills.
As for a 2600 screen, it’s ok but if you ever use a newer 2630 or 4640 you’ll find it mind numbingly slow to load and navigate! Personally I wouldn’t get anything older than a 2630 and 3000 pod. Just note, the itc pod is now obsolete so don’t go any where near one of them.

No problems means I’m happy with the accuracy . If your not use RTK . I never said it was as good but it’s good enough for me . Simples .
