We've got a 6910 powershift. Only twice we've had a problem and that was sorted first time by cleaning the multi plug under the gear shift and second time filter change.
Nice to drive and use.

I don’t know why they are not more popular.had powershift in a 4050 and loved it and then when I had a 6900 with power quad I hated it fir a long while.for some reason they are no longer popular or even available

I was invited on a tour of the American factories by JD in the 1980's to celebrate the 25 years anniversary of Powershift.

We met the bloke who had designed it in the 1960's.
He explained to us that the weakest point in the transmission was the 3 small gears that were the primary drive between the engine and the powershift clutch packs. "Don't nail the suckers to the ground with dual wheels," he said "The 'shearbolt' in the system is between the tyres and the ground, not the teeth on those 3 small gears!"

Having said that, we put thousands of hours on a 4055 and 4955 back then and never had a problem.

Great transmission, it's stood the test of time and always the right gear for the job.

The semi-powershift shift (JD power quad) has been imposed on the total powershift by the forward-reverse steering inverter. It is much more practical to pull the inverter in one direction or the other than to go through all the points of the powershift to reach the reverse gears. It is also easier and cheaper to manufacture

Contractor i used to work for in the uni summers had a 7700 powershift and it had a mind of its own as to when it would take up drive, crossing main roads or pulling out of junctions was lethal, they swapped it for a powerquad after only a year
