John Deere reducing dealerships

John Deere Forestry run out of Carlisle. The mechanics can orders parts to certain places through a amazon type arrangement so dont need to go back to Carlisle for them.

From that one deport they send there mechanics all the way down to the south coast and upto the Scottish highlands. Probably requires a very good service manager who can keep track of his mechanics and get the closest one to machines that require fixing.

Maybe JD don't want the headache of dealing with small farmers, repairing their tractors 5+ years old and would much rather they were exported. Bit like car main dealers dont like selling old cars.

JD probably want to concentrate on selling brand new machines where the money is? Let's be honest farmers will always buy JD they regard them.as a prestige brand.

John Deere has been successful for 180 years, so why do you try to tear it down..?
You don't like the way they operate their business model, ok, don't buy their products but don't knock them for being one of the worlds most successful companies.
.

I was not knocking them just pointing out the way they have changed the way they deal with the dealers and customers

I think customers have already started to change their buying habits

One thing is for sure Deere have lifted the price of the products and all manufacturers have benefitted as a result.

I the market leader is charging a premium price why would you not place your price in the same ballpark

As I understand it, the money for the dealers is in workshop time. For warranty work they get paid a percentage of their hourly customer rate. So for a dealer the most profitable job is an out of warranty repair. The money for the manufacturer is in sale of new kit.
Conflict of interest?

Simple way to send a message to JD, and all manufacturers is to stop buying. The problem is that will never happen, JD are charging what they like and doing what they want because you, the farmer are letting them!! You forget that due to competition JD need you more than you need them. If nobody bought a new JD for 18 months you’d see how much they want your business but they know U.K. farmers never work together.

Does it matter how or who

If their size affected the decision it was a ballsy call from jd to upset the balance if they all said sack one sack all.

Just goes to show that no business can be assured of continuous support from the manufacturer

Loyalty is well down the list of priorities from JD

But top of list from customers it seems
