Car dealers don’t speak farmer.
Best cash price means nothing to them, they’d much rather sell to someone who can’t afford it on monthly finance than give discount for pay on the nail.
I’m coming to the conclusion that price on the window is minimum price onto which they’d like to add finance charges and that the salesman is much more interested in selling finance than cars.
The world Is built on credit now, cash is no longer king.

Some still speak farmer! just have to know the right places to goto
I ended up buying a 9month old car, the very same one id been asking A sharks about some 18months previous & what a wonderful exp that all was & id do it again tomorrow if i needed too.
Yes i paid with CASH well debit card & was able to haggle on window price. The savings over the same new one was considerable anyways, learnt me a lot ;)

Well done, I’m kind of trying to buy a newish vehicle myself, just can’t get any dealers to speak my language, all they want to talk is finance, not discount.

My uncle was looking at a GL in same dealership. Offered him £1500 discount if he took finance! Best bit was he could pay it off in full 3 months later anyway.

We’ve bought two used cars from Arnold Clark in last three months, both bought outwright, managed to get a free towbar on one and was lucky enough to oay the deposit on the other on black friday for a £300 off offer!! They’re not so keen once you mention you want to pay for the car!!!

Out of interest I let them and local main dealer quote us on their PCP deals! HSBC was beating them hands down on just their online personal loan calculator on the whole amount not on just the loan amount without the ridiculous balloon payments!!

I agree this is a very bad way to treat customers . However, they don’t care about you or your low offer. As 30-40 more will come in after you and won’t even barter the price.

So are you upfront about wanting a cash deal or do you negotiate the asking price down on the basis you’re buying on finance and then spring it on them in the end?

plenty dont value there money very well do they.
I was born in the era where you saved up for such things & made do with what you had in a lot of cases.
The world wants everything yesterday & by whatever means possible, all common sence seems to be forgone & PCP/PHP/LOANS/LEASING call it whatever seems to be the Car Buying tool
nowerdays. many living beyond there means & are having it regardless.

Whats wrong way it is when the sh!t hits the fan and you have a bad year be it poor yeilds, cows not in calf or terrible weather you stil have the payments to make. The man that works way lesser stuf and owns it will never go bang but plenty that just buys whatever they like whether they can afford it or not ends up in big financial diffs
