John Deere reducing dealerships

Are Jd doing leading the way and other manufacturers will follow suit? Large “expensive” showrooms, well equipped workshops and parts departments but much fewer of them. Is what the future holds?

Sounds like they don't see any need or glamour in selling tractors to farmers anymore. The hire fleets, large contractors and councils will be a better bet. Why sell 50 tractors to 40 farmers when the corporate buyers will be 150 in a single deal and will want them with service, warranty and replacement contracts?

Precisely. The “other manufacturers” will take a good look and have a chat with Sharmans for sure. I’ve a sneaky idea what may happen but ethical professionalism stops me printing it here; it’s not for me to suggest what may happen going forward.
There will be no mistake in saying that Agco will be offering one of their franchises as they are seeing three in the same bed is not working.

And here was i hoping they might allow a second dealer in my country. My last 4 new john deeres were all bought from unofficial dealers that ordered them from dealers in Italy or France. So, with the extra haulage and some profit for the unofficial dealer it still worked out cheaper than getting it from the official dealer. Way to go, John Deere...

I’d be suprised if any Deere dealership sold 30 new combines a year or 15 foragers.ive no idear how many combines are sold in uk each year but if there are ten jd dealers selling 30 a piece that’s 300 and that’s excluding claas, new Holland and case and I’d be suprised if there are 300 combines sold new in uk each year.

UK combine sales are about 700 per year atm

Ya deffo right there v few sell all three & how that works for them ive no idea
all rang as sep business's afaik must be a nightmare
Ultimately the customer will only buy what they will buy i bet there aint that many jump brands that often, dealers if they change more so tho.
We deal with people & if you like them & get on etc etc you can be swayed into changing colours but its not always as easy to do.

Having dealt with Sharmans for years I fail to see how anyone could do a better job with the JD dealership than them personally. Good luck to whoever takes JD on and even better luck to the guys at Sharmans for whatever the future holds for them. And if anyone from Sharmans is on here, if you could start selling Deutz I’d appreciate it and you can have my order for a new tractor once every 5 years as a thank you?

30 combines and 15 foragers .....

They must be deluded - or referring to Britain’s models!

How can they achieve that number if according to the AEA figures for new sales only 575 combines were sold in 2017/18 and 180 combines. I remember being told Claas account for something like 45% of combine sales, selling more than JD and NH combined. Also something like 2 out of every 3 foragers sold are Claas.
