Is a c^nt, plain and simple.

He has been mouthing off today trying to make political capital out of public fear in re the coronavirus. This isn't and must not be a party political mater, the government have acted and are acting on the advice of the CMO, CSA and the BoE, all of which have said as much. If it was a Tory criticising a Labour Gov't in this situation in this way, it would be equally contemptible. And yet Comrade McDonnell wants some more panic...

He is & always will be out of power, so he's trying to cause trouble instead. That's how he'll be remembered. Disgusting.

The government has to play a cool hand and not pander to the lemmings but give good guidance resulting in a measured response. This virus is obviously highly contagious with little imprinted human defense but the symptoms are initially mild. Secondary problems could prove fatal to vulnerable people, a category into which I fall. We can all work out a strategy to deal with this without help from career politicians and a common sense approach is required. I may not survive but it will not be the fault of the government and I don`t expect idiots like McDonnell will contribute anything towards saving me. He should shut up and take care of himself if he has any sense.

Common sense, that is what the "nanny state" has destroyed, when people were expected to make their own decisions it had to be used, now everyone expects some one else to do the thinking, and then tell them what to do, it has withered on the branch!
I too am endangered by this bug, but what will be, will be.

Agreed. People have little idea on how to take care of themselves or envisage risks today. Back when the snow was bad I remember some morons complaining on Faceache that the council had been 'useless' as they had not come and cleared their drives so they could go to work etc. People are generally morons.

Hmm... steering away from what's becoming a bit of a morbid line of chat...

Wee Rory Stewart, who clearly regards himself as more qualified to comment on the matter than the combined brains of the CMO, CSO and BoE - and who is also desperately seeking relevance - has criticised the actions / inactions of the Government.

Wee Rory is complaining that the Government has followed the advice of the CMO, CSO and BoE; from this we can read that, had he become Tory leader and PM, he would be in Downing Street dismissing the opinions of said experts. What a little tw*t!

McDonnell isn’t the only one. Rory Stewart and Farage are having their day too. Lack of action is causing public concern, opposition politicians capitalise, what did you expect?
As a follow-up to the post yesterday, having now seen the full interview with Farage, and to be fair I think he was about 60% right. He was about as damning of Trump as we could expect him to be, telling him to forget dogma and listen to the scientists - ironic, I know... - and stating bluntly that he hadn't done and wasn't doing anywhere near enough.

Don't misunderstand me, I agreed with him on Brexit but Nigel has had his day and - like other politicos who don't matter much anymore - is rather desperately trying to seem relevant. But that doesn't make what he has said 'wrong' when it's right.

He is not a cont...
Yes, he really is.

Come now precious Shadwell, you do protest to much.

What like those in government?

Take it you think government is beyond reproach at this time?
Have to say Boris comes across as not fit to lead my dog let alone a country at this time.

So we can get Brexit, floods etc done (much waving hands and ruffled hair) but not manage the country at this time.

Hopefully the decision does not have to be made between people and pounds.

Least we have the budget tomorrow which should will help businesses and people which are really suffering with cashflow issues, we have to hope.

On the people front it is surely more than legitamite to get beyond the generalisations that have gone before and the rhetorical crap about getting retired staff back in etc.

The government have followed the advice of the CMO.

They have stated that getting retired staff back into the NHS is one option on the table. Not that they would do it across the board and tough fudge to what anyone says.

It is worth noting that a proportion of NHS staff will have retired early.

So if you were leader you would continue in the present course rather than follow countries like Taiwan and Japan who have followed scientific evidence from those who know their science, such as filtration
wearing masks as they do in The far east possibly removes 90% of infection. Of course our experts know better anyone knows that a particle smaller than the gaps in a filter will get through. Just try running straight through a maze, it does not work like that

I've spent a lot of time in Japan and can tell you that the 'mask' wearing is a cultural thing to do with politeness - those with a cough, cold etc. wear the masks as a courtesy to those around them. Assuming you've been there, you'll know that the masks sold and handed out all over Japan are more like Kleenex paper towels than anything else - they don't work as inhibitors to virus transfer.

If they worked Japan wouldn't have similar stat's for influenza / common cold to the rest of us, but it does. (y)
