New entrants, current farmers and landowners can learn more about a unique way of getting into agriculture or expanding current farming practices at a free webinar with leading industry experts.

The Joint Ventures webinar, run by the Farm Advisory Service (FAS), will explain how farmers can build and develop a business for a low capital investment.

Participants will also be given an insight into both the landlord and contractors’ perspectives, the legalities of joint ventures and how to avoid problems, and information about the opportunities that currently exist.

The experts include:

  • Hamish Lean, Shepherd and Wedderburn, who has been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in agricultural law since 2000 and deals with an exclusively agricultural and rural client base
  • Matthew Currie, Savills UK, who specialises in strategic business and succession planning and developing rural businesses, as well as providing business and personal skills coaching and development
  • Chloe McCulloch, Business specialist at SAC Consulting – part of Scotland’s Rural College
  • Ian Davidson OBE, Independent advisor for the Scottish Land Matching Service, which was established in 2019

Principal Consultant at SAC Consulting Kirsten Williams, who has organised the webinar on behalf of FAS, said: “We are seeing a vast amount of interest in joint venture agreements, in both cereal and livestock systems.

“These agreements must be properly thought through, with each party understanding the requirements of the contract.

“Our panel of experts will assist you in understanding these agreements and raise awareness of any loopholes.”

The webinar, which is free to attend, will be held on Tuesday 3 November from 8pm to 9pm.
