How do you do the timing? So that the plunger does t smash the needles off, or is it just a case of having the needles coming up as the plunger is going back?

Without checking the book, I think the following is correct...

Take knotter drive chain off,

Wind baler on by hand so that plunger is on its compression stoke,

Trip knotter, set needles so that the tips of the needles are level with the grooves in the chamber floor (the grooves that make the grooves in the bale, in which the twine sits)

Make sure that the face of the ram is 1ins in front of the needle tip

Reapply drive chain, taking slack up so that when you set it going, it engages from the off.

Test by hand

Ensure ram stop is free and working

Test by hand again

Test by tractor

Prime twine into knotter, go baling!

One of the two bearings on our jones mk10 fell apart and needs replaced. does anyone have any tips for removal please? Ive taken off the chain on the outside and slackened the two bearing houses. Do i need to take off the cogs on both sides? seems like an impossible task, the outside one possibly but no chance with the one closest to the pick up. it looks like cutting the shaft in two and replacing might be best option? thanks

Other lads will know more, but always best to tap the sprocket in first, ensuring it's going onto a clean well lubricated surface. Then pull off ....
