Just found this advertised. Any idea what's it all about. ?

that's nothing to do with land ownership that's to do with planning policy
do away with the need for planning permission and see what so called building land is worth
planning permission and planning policy are the biggest subsidy's out
just saying

Exactly. And its worth noting that all the Tourist hotspots were built on an ad hoc basis before Planning Officers existed.

There is an argument that it is not very fair that Landowners can sell a plot of building land for £100,000 just for a single but modest house, when thousands of young working folk haven't a hope of either owning one or renting one at an affordable price.

Just saying.

And in addition, if a young couple can scrimp and save and mange to buy a house, despite the plot having cost £100,000 because of a greedy grasping farmer who sold the land to them or a builder, that same young couple will be paying income tax to subsidise (in the way of agricultural payments) that same greedy sod who sold the land.

Again, just saying - as a landowner and Tory voter.

If we accept your 100k plot, which I personally don't, would houses be 100k cheaper if the land were to be free? "Overheads" down the whole chain would absorb £99k of it.

It really doesn't - but don't let that stop you from posting that word jumble.

Sounds to me more like they are trying to follow in certain parts of the anarchist tradition (small voting collectives to decide consensus).

Not saying I nescessarily agree with it, but do try reading some political theory before you make political posts about political theory.)

Thanks, I studied politics for two years, touching on anarcho-syndicalism (or 'anarchy'-communism), and long enough to see that in the end it all ultimately boils down to tyranny hence the reference to failed communist states.
While my previous reply wasn't meant to be entirely serious I will add that I doubt a bunch of Marxist philosophers debating land ownership in a community centre in Bristol should concern any of us too much. By the time they find common ground their audience will have given up the will to live.

It sounds like the same sort of organisation that Monbiot (and some others, including I think Shrubsole and Simon Fairlie) set up about 25 years ago and called "The Land is Ours". I think they are still in existence.

I see from looking at this supposed Land Justice website that they planned a "takeover" by occupying land at Hebden Bridge in May last year. Anybody know how that went down locally?

I always advise them that like I, and many others who had no farming background or inheritance did, they should
go and get a job, save as much as they can and then borrow as much as they can and buy some land. It might not be much and they will never get rich by farming it, but life is as simple as that - you get nowt for nowt.

I looked up their hebden bridge minutes, here’s some comments from attendees:

“shocked at how disorganised how it was and lack of plans

felt like a couple of people’s idea rather than something with wider buy in

spent a lot of time carrying things up the hill

woodcraft folk’s 16-18 year olds camp far more organised and they were run by kids!

local advice wasn’t taken on board e.g. fires on site etc

key organisers weren’t realistic about their capacities

local hosts kept in the dark

handbook stated all decisions would be taken by consensus but this did not happen

locals felt help offers were rebuffed by organisers

too much secrecy and not enough information”

so, sounds like it was a poorly planned and badly run pet project and the ”takeover” was actually a poorly organised hosted event, the organisers of which managed to both fall out with their hosts, the local community and some of the attendees. And despite claiming to be a “non-hierarchical group”, it isn’t.

viva le revolution!

I'm conflicted mate.
On one hand, I'm a poor downtrodden tenant, beholden to an estate founded centuries ago..... so 'up the workers!' and all that.
But then, I've managed to buy a bit of property myself... I even rent some of it out. so I'm a wicked landlord as well.
Bugger...who am I?

to borrow a line....
'I'm all for the even distribution of wealth...lets share everything out equally.
Right, i'm off down the bookies, then round the pub, and finish the evening up in a lap dancing club.
And tomorrow, we'll share it all out again'

Moonbat now claiming that the Right to Roam across the whole country is now a fundamental human right, equal to freedom of speech.

He is trying to stir up activists to exercise their rights as soon as lockdown ends, claiming their [non-existent] right to roam across all areas, including urban areas and golf courses.

He suddenly appears to hate golf...
