Just How Much £££ Would You Need To Plant Arable Land With Trees?

So go on, humour me, given we've lived through ewgs and a variety of schemes that make us feel like criminals or beggars, just how much money would you want from a govt department to plant say a decent field from arable to trees, and how much extra to allow the public access to it?

Not even that would tempt me when you consider how these government bodies act.

The stories of @ajcc and @renewablejohn show the risks aren’t worth selling my soul to the devil for.

Also worth remembering, once it’s woodland, always woodland. No payment needed and rules can be changed by govt at any time. At least with solar, if they wanted to extend the lease beyond 30 years you’d hopefully get a decent rent continuing….unless it all goes the way of the Electronic Communications Code.

Minimum of market value as an upfront lump sum as it would massively devalue it, plus planting costs then a yearly payment of a figure around what the profit could be from farming it...but i still wouldn’t do it for that.

Surley trees will be there a lot longer than 30 yrs

no amount.....simply because you can't trust the fekkers to come back in the future and demand a refund

Cost of planting + about £7k/acre up front cash payment.

Expect they'll offer cost of planting + say £50/acre/annum for a dozen years. They'll be hoping organisations like NT or businesses like British Airways will want to do it anyway, so it will be peanuts.

Yes they will but I was just making a point with reference to PV installations where the initial contract terms might be around 30 years with an option to extend.

Currently commercial forestry land is iht exempt - but will the iht rules continue for any ag land?

None, because you can’t trust Gov that it’ll be nationalised/free access to all

So really the only way for the govt to get these trees anywhere beyond the odd wet corner is to buy your land.

This is all down to the complete lack of trust of all govt departments. I hope those watching take note.

To be honest I don't have a big problem with footpath walkers and people enjoying farmland but then again I don't see many of them either

but its not intended for forestry. carbon sequestration means it can never be burnt, felled or chipped. its for amenity use at best. i.e, Non-Ag, Non-Forestry.

Just don't get the attraction and logic for anyone with half decent land to plant it with trees , there was no appeal when food was not 'wanted' but even less appealing now food has become 'fasionable' again !
