Just Started Farming

Hello everyone, I'm from the tropical island of Jamaica. It has been 4 months now since I have been farming. So far I've grown iceberg lettuce, bush beans and raddish. I'm now growing scotch bonnet peppers from seedlings I bought at 8 weeks old. I must say I am thrilled by some charleston grey watermelon that I have tried. Usually during this cold season watermelon doesn't grow at all in Jamaica. However I have some vines that are now bearing and the vines look absolutely phenomenal! Sssshhhh.... I didn't even water them at all since I planted them in November.

Welcome along, @Tropix!

Sounds fascinating, will your produce be marketed locally or for export?

We've looked at growing "special" veg indoors, things that won't grow outdoors in our climate, it's just marketing what we'd grow - we have quite a low population in the south island of NZ, and that's put us off for now.

Anyone can grow things to 'give away'!

Hi @Kiwi Pete
I don't want to sell locally as the market prices are extremely low. I'm considering developing a hot sauce product so I can use some myself as main ingredient, and exporting the surplus. If you are interested in building a network that would be great. Oh btw I'm also growing a few ganja plants... they are really good

Crazy if you don't!

Rumours and polls suggest that NZ is on route to have a referendum about freeing it up, which would be great, the way our regulations are presently it is an obstruction to even growing industrial hemp  I think it would be a really positive move, leave the 19th century behind :)

Good idea with the sauce, add as much value as possible before it leaves your farm, that's a very smart thing to do

Where in Jamaica are you just back from two weeks in Treasure Beach, saw lots of tomatoes, melons, goats and grazing cattle.
Good luck in your venture.
We had some very good Jerk Chicken and Pork so lots of demand for your chillies

So today at work I had an idea...
Would anyone here support a small project by donating? Kinda like a crowdfund thing. Nothing exuberant. Just feedback required now

I'm business minded. I'm not here to launder money so if you're skeptical keep scrolling please. The idea is to create a legal entity that is in the agricultural sector. Partnership deed is a must. There are endless opportunities here that can be converted to cash.
