Justifying & Fitting a Liquid Applicator Kit to JD 750A Drill

I am considering whether the above is justifiable. Instinctively it would make sense to be able to accurately place fertiliser or 'starters' in the seed zone but i would really like to know what quantifiable benefits have users seen in practice?

Assuming existing users are convinced the system is viable, i'd welcome any recommendations ref kit and installation.

Many thanks

I can't comment about liquid but I use dry fert and what I would say is its a very useful thing to have. You don't have to use it every time but sometimes I think it really helps you along. I've generally just used DAP, Urea, AN, AS and sometimes a NPK blend.

I think for example for wheat into grass its been good to add a little bit of N the same with spring barley I think its definitely helped get a good quality stand. If you think its not too expensive I'd get one fitted though its not essential.

Robert,
I have operated both wet and dry fert systems over the years and would def recommend it if you can keep the cost sensible at 2 or 3 k say?
I think it has a place for OSR, and later sown second/third cereals especially, but even more so in the spring when speedy establishment is essential. I also believe it deters slugs activity around the seed zone.
What size tank and drill are you wanting to put one on?.

What would be a typical cost for a liquid system on a 3m 750? Many have built frames which is something we are more than capable of doing on farm but its the pumping side where I would struggle.

get a 2nd Accord metering, attach opposite to the grain metering, build a tank & off you go. there are so many used Accord metering's flocking around so I reccon for less than 1000 € you are having it. good project for winter workshop.

If you're not sure how you can justify placed fertiliser, why not just fit a micro granule applicator delivering micro fert into the Venturi. I know the fert is expensive per unit applied but the hardware required is simple to do.

Fitted my own made system onto my 3m, with a little help from local Sprayer workshop who have done quite a few on various drills & planters etc. Total cost, not inc steelwork which I did myself, was under £2000.

I built one for little money. Used a Hardi front sprayer tank, imported a good capacity 12v Seaflo pump and used a speed controller from eBay. Neil Challis supplied a spring loaded rocker switch which is activated from the rear metering wheel. I made my own fert tubes but Clive can supply some which would take out a lot of effort. Hardest part is regulating flow but can be achieved by ensuring a restriction is present on each tube. Going to fit a flow meter next which will be in the cab so I know I'm getting a constant feed. It's not rocket science but needs a little thought. Or get someone in to build it.

@Northdowns Martin Sorry photo wouldn't upload from phone for some unknown reason, hope this helps.

1200lt Endurramax tank, Hypro pump, self flushing filter, T'd to 2 manifolds, each supplying 9 coulters through individual nozzle bodies containing restrictors, pressure guage at front of drill. Stop start of system is on spool valve and flow rate +/- is by altering flow to pump using tractor electronic spool valve or for bigger changes by changing restricitors.

I know it sounds difficult but if you are half handy you could build your own peristaltic pump (which are ideal) for little money which with a simple gearing would allow rate adjustment.
RS probably sell suitable tubing and the rest is easy. Very reliable accurate and positive displacement.

Anyone looking for a tank, I can give you a delivered price on anything made by Enduramaxx?
It is alot cheaper if using microgranules to use Tech grade DAP or urea prills through the machine. last lot of Tech grade DAP[sub 1mm ] granules i bought were about £550 a ton in 25kg bags from frontier.

in the November Farmers guide i noticed that Clive had a stainless steel tank for liquid fertilizer on the JD750A drill.
Can you supply some details of where this was sourced and how the fert is applied yo the seed row

What sort of rate and for what crops do you apply tech grade DAP? Does it have the same analysis as standard DAP?
