JXU 105 steering

Hi, new to this forum, but am after some info on a tractor I bought last year. It's a 57 plate Case JXU 105, 4wd with a loader fitted. Reasonably happy with the tractor except for a couple of things, for which I am struggling to get any joy from the dealer.

Firstly the steering seems to me, to be a bit on the heavy side. I have a NH 5635 which is noticeably lighter. It doesn't matter if the throttle is open or shut, wheather you lift the front wheels off the ground or not, wheather you are moving or stationary. I have had the dealer out a couple of times and they say it might be a bit heavier than some other models but still within spec. I have quizzed to see if there are any filters in the circuit that might need replacing but they assure me this is not the case. (No pun intended)

Secondly the tractor seems very reluctant to free wheel when the steering is not pointing in the forward position. The tyres are ballasted with water, so I was wondering is the extra weight causing this. I have checked and as far as I can make out the 4wd is disengaging. Tyre wear for the age of the tractor is a bit excessive but it came from a farm that did a lot of road work.

Thanks in advance for any info.

the tyre ballast would be very possible cause.

as for the steering , there`s a possibility that the steering wheel is pushed down tight on the steering column shroud.
used to happen to 40 series often and its defo worth a try. just sit in the seat and pull the steering wheel up . it may move a couple of mm and just stop it binding on the plastic below.

Is the jxu range the same as NH T50-- series? If so there is a small filter on the right hand side of engine, in a canister, try changing that. It is for the steering if I remember correctly

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I tried pulling up the steering wheel, but made no difference. There is a small filter on the RHS of this engine so I will order a spare and try changing that. I will post results when completed.
