Kaiwaka waterproofs promotion at CCF (West Wales)

I was in Crymych yesterday and noted that CCF have a promotion on for Kaiwaka Stormforce kit; they are knocking 10% off the rrp, plus you get another 10% credited to your account if you are a member, which is bl**dy good!

I've got some of this gear and it's by far the best waterproof clothing I've ever had, I got mine at discount from Kiwikit, also in Crymych, but this is even better value. So if you're thinking about this stuff, go for it while the deal is on. (y):)

They changed the material a couple of years ago and they're not quite as good as they were I found. The original jacket was awesome, lasted two winters and took some serious abuse. My second jacket didn't quite stand up to the durability of its predecessor.

They have them on offer in my local merchant too (not CCF) and I was sorely tempted for a replacement. £175 +vat for the winter jacket.

Still too expensive, fancy stuff for fancy farmers.:sneaky:

Goretex stuff from army surplus is way more cost effective.(y)
I think it depends upon what you're doing, if it's winter fencing then I'd not go near it in decent kit. But for everything else having the good kit means doing a given job in the p!ssy rain is just a pain rather than utterly miserable.

I used goretex a lot in the Army and found the issue stuff alright at best. Berghaus kit was, then, very good in comparison, but not a patch on the Kaiwaka stuff I have now.

My stuff is a couple of years old, presumably from a pre-change batch, and I can't fault it. Breaths well, is very tough and very comfortable.

I have no idea why manufacturers change stuff when it is very good. Not withstanding what I wrote above, because it was good for the time, Berghaus changed their materials a couple of times and went from very good to pretty dire.

Are you sure it was Kaiwaka and not betacraft? Both very similar, have only seen Kaiwaka at Kiwikit, betacraft is now stocked by CCF as well as PeterLewis Agri, I bought my son a bib and brace from Peter. Betacraft is a fair bit cheaper than Kaiwaka.

It is bloody good kit.. I get mine thru a buyer's group and bought a new set 7 years ago, which is still in the bags as the previous set is still in use!
Only the cuffs of the coat have worn, a couple of the dome fasteners need dug out as they are too full of mud to stay closed, and the velcro tab at the collar lost its stick.... not too bad for 10 year old raingear.
A couple of small tears in the pants below the knee.
Still warm and waterproof.

Beware the large markup on it though, after seeing the quoted £175 + VAT above, I went onto their site and see it's around NZ$400!
Through the buying group I got a jacket and pants for the price of a jacket in the shop.... but don't wonder if it's worth the pricetag, it is

12 months ago I stood for 6 hours in near horizontal driving Snowdonian rain at Bala dog sale. I studied the people as well as the dogs....there were those who were wet and miserable and pee'd off along with myself and the others who were happy and oblivious to dreadful weather.
Almost invariably the happy folk were wearing grey/blue coats...I bought a kaiwaka coat the following week. Best all round investment a stock farmer can make I reckon.

Definitely Kaiwaka, I was wearing my jacket at the time and it was the same colour combination and logo on the stuff being sold.

A lad working for me bought a whole new flexothane outfit on Tuesday from CCF but said to me he regretted not buying the Kaiwaka they had on offer as he’s wanted them for years and will be replacing the flexothane within weeks as it’s crap..

personally I’m on Guy Cotten as it’s more waterproof than Kaiwaka and half the price. Delamare for every days and Guy Cottens for storms/monsoon weather.

I'm utterly gobsmacked, I never ever thought I would see the words discount and kiwikit in the same sentence !

I've just recently bought winter jackets and bib & brace for everyone here (3 of us). Tried my best and got 10% off, which I thought could have been bettered for over a grand's worth of gear. Still bought it as I'd made up my mind to have it already, but it did hurt.

Slightly irked to see @tepapa can get a jacket for £175.

Either way, early indications are that it's bloody good gear. Needless to say it's hardly rained since I placed the order...

Edited to add: while I wasn't overly impressed with the price, I was very impressed with the service from Kiwikit. Phoned them on Mon, local rep phoned to arrange a visit that PM. Visit AM Tues, bang on time, with call ahead to confirm he was on time; enough gear on board for us to sort sizes and decide what we wanted. Placed order with the office at lunch, gear arrived Thurs. Returned a jacket; replacement came out on overnight delivery with a return label for the one to go back. All very painless, so maybe more a case of 'get what you pay for'.

I guess Wales must have run out of hessian sacks- worn over the shoulders much like an Italian gangster wears an overcoat. Bur without the shades.
Yes, they ran out about forty years ago.

It is the way of things... :meh:

How is the sizing for these? I am tempted by some of the over trousers but no measurements for what Large is for instance?
