It has been reported here, I think most in the west believe it is for Russian consumption as opposed to any realistic threat. However it should be read far more widely particularly those useful idiots on both Right and Left who think the sun shines out of Vlads rear end.
He has been working hard for years to drive splinters in any weak point he can find and that has not been difficult for him. Brexit was a godsend , he was always aware that Britain was. By far and away the most anti Russian state and now he has a stranglehold on Europes energy supply he feels he can dictate any terms he likes.
One good thing Trump did was to raise concerns about the Nordstream gas link , however it is probably far too late. Those politicians responsible for destroying all the coal plants in Europe should be hung out to dry
Germany shut 3 nuclear power stations last week. Beyond belief! Vlad's laughing his arse off.

Many hailed merkel as a great leader, funny how these shutdowns were timed just after she left office
She shut them though. They have been years getting ready for the shutdowns. If she'd stood again she'd still be there.
With the situation with Gas / Russia, I would have kept them running on the grounds of national security.
If that's possible? Assume it's not as simple as flicking a switch?

When you call on rows of Russian troops to shoot your own people, you have lost the argument.
Nothing to do with that, there isn't even an 'argument' in their books. The quite horrible truth is that they've called Vlad's boys in because it will take Russians far, far longer to get sick of shooting Kazakhs than it will Kazakhstani troops shooting at their own people.

Time will tell what will happen.

In Catalonia, firemen & police stood with the people against federal Spanish riot police.

I hope there is improvement in Kazahstan, such a big area & it said on the radio this morning internet, mobile phones all turned off. People won't know what is happening.

Yes it is a fraction of its former size kazakhstan is a very dry region with very low rainfall. It is very quickly depleting its resources
I spent a day or so twenty years ago driving around what was The Aral Sea,very polluted region with DDT dust everywhere.Things are now returning (slowly) back to normal with vast sums of World Bank funding and fishing has resumed ,so I wish them well.

Also another interesting snippet from this is that a very large % of Bitcoin mining takes place there and they've switched t"internet off/power so no mining can take place. Resulting in a large price drop of Bitcoin and almost all other crypto coins too.

It seems that the Russians have orders from the Kazakh 'leaders' to shoot without warning at the '20,000 bandits' who have attacked the main city...

We know the internet and mobile 'phone network has been shut down, but I guarantee that there are still comm's of some sort, and people will know most of what is happening.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world does SFA, again...

Evil calculating dictator.

Spent a bit of time reading up on what are mystery countries to me, fascinating so vast, such harsh climates & such reserves of oil, gas & minerals.

Many of the "stans" have actually built up large reserves of wealth (compared to our debts) & could afford to spend on aid & giving a good life to their citizens. They are muslim but like we are Christian not strict, secular. Revolution is needed but could go horribly wrong with strict Mus;im countries competing with Russia, China & the west for influance.

I presume these countries supplied the troops to invade Afganistan in 1981 some of which went native.

I think Putins concern will be the influence of Iran, so he will be down very hard just as they did in Chechchnia

I have no doubt that Mad Vlad has designs on Ukraine, but at least the situation in Kazakhstan might distract him for a while.
The problem is that if he does invade Ukraine, what can the West do?
Very little if truth be told. Russia could cripple Europe overnight if he turns the gas off, which would cause a massive hike in energy prices worldwide.
But how far would Russia be prepared to go? Despite the rhetoric coming out, somebody I know who works in the munitions industry told me that Russia wouldn’t dare start a military strike against the West, because they would be blown away.
Not sure how true that is, but gives us something to think about.

Obviously no winners from a nuclear exchange, and I don't for a moment think Vlad would start one unless Mother Russia as a whole was seriously threatened, any more than we would in re the UK.

In any conventional conflict against the 'West' as a whole - or the US alone - Russia would have the living sh!t kicked out of it, and Vlad knows this full well. That's why he picks his fights very carefully, never doing anything big /serious enough to provoke or require a proper retaliation from Western powers, but significant enough for him to be able to say 'Look, I do what I want and they do nothing.'
But he isn't stupid and simply wouldn't dare push too hard.

But... sooner or later he may well misjudge or push a bit too hard by accident, if that happens and a serious response comes back at him, he'll fold immediately and cut his losses, probably blaming 'rogue' local commanders.

I hope you're right.
Do you think the west is strong enough to put him back in his borders if he drives his tanks across Ukraine but no further? Strong enough and United enough?
All I read is how depleted the standing armies of NATO are in Germany and how things have gone to a quick reaction force as opposed to lots of tanks.
He'd have the west Ukrainian Gas and oilfields then as well.

Been reading a bit of late, that top brass in US military, quite concerned about the relative differences in strength and capacity trajectory, US vs Russia and UD vs China.
Russia building huge military base inside the artic circle, with very advanced technology,
China appear to be racing ahead on hypersonic technology. Even pipsqueak in N Korea, getting into hypersonic stuff now.
It could be a foolish mistake, to sip a good wine, whilst enjoying one’s assumed military superiority. Vlad and Chinaman, are busy stocking the bunkers with nasty stuff….
