Keeping an ibc clean when used as a water tank

I use an ibc for watering sheep in one place and I fill it once a week. I have a white one and a black one. The black is great for staying clean but with the light getting into the white one it goes green in days. Anything I can add every time I fill it to help keep the water fresh and the tank from going green??

Chap kept pigeons across the road, set up a IBC to catch water from the gutters on the shed, he had the same problem, so I told him to paint it black, problem solved.

It's the sunlight that causes it, that's why a still pond goes green on top, moving water does not suffer with the problem.

Dad had a poly tunnel and kept complaining about the hose pipe kinking all the time, so I fitted a length of airline instead, then he had problems with rose end keep blocking up with green gunk, boss from Dales water came to call and he explained it all to me, can't remember the technical bits now though.

Dye the contents black, no algae and you will also get some interesting marbling of the fleeces.

Yes I was thinking I should maybe just paint it black. It was just a thought about adding some form off chlorine or what ever.
I think I’ll just paint it, it would be the best solution. I’ll put a strip of tape up one side and peel it off after painting so that I can see how much is left in it from a distance

Black, yes, I heard before the plastic isn't the best surface for painting, maybe that was wrong.
i was making a joke,:sorry: actually come to think of it if it was painted black first then white over that it would reflect light/heat better:unsure:
plastic suitable paint might last longer ?
.
i keep meaning to do some i would use a compressor and blow it over with the gun ,only take 5 mins
