You’d think we’d learn by now eh...gotta love that scene with Kong riding the ICBM.

That orange idiot in the white house and the bare chested lunatic might do well to have a recap....

To be honest, I dont think either are the main concern, they both are aware of the damage they would receive, winner or not. The Asian countries are another matter, they may be aware of said damage, but would welcome it, as a step on the road to their promised afterlife.

Whilst I agree the world is running into some kind of collision course. Nuclear isn’t going to happen.
Have you not seen terminator? They may have got the dates wrong but AI is entering the battlefield.... :bag:

However more likely that a full exchange is nukes turning up in the hands of ISIS either some of the ones that are known to be missing or supplied via North Korea or Iran ... America are known to have lost and not recovered several devices due to air accidents and some of which are on land. Russia has lost a lot, perhaps a hundred, some of which could have simply been walked out of a storage depot, small as an artillery warhead or even back pack devices. Perhaps not the most powerful of weapons they still with enough yield to cause massive loss of life and economic devastation if detonated close to a major financial center.

Human capacity for self destruction know no limits.

It's not just nuclear war...... Was quite pleased with myself after fitting battery isolators to all the tractors/ forklifts. After a week, I got to thinking....does the 7840 have an ECU ?............does it need it's back up battery charged ?......I now leave the isolator switched on.
I'm now wondering about the Manipoo ?.....year 2001 ?......does it have an ECU......does it have a back up battery that needs charging ?...
Modern sh!te :rolleyes::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
Oh well, 2 out of 4 ain't bad....:singing::singing::singing:

I turn the isolator off on our CAT Th220 handler every night .... 08 plate so it must have an ecu ??

No ill effects yet .. (y)

Why would there be any ill effects? As long as you allow enough time for the ECU to shut down ‘gracefully’ after you turn off the ignition (more important with later machines) and before you hit the kill switch. Happy days.

As in what 7610 super q was on about above ... with the ecu's needing constant power ??

I've never heard of any problems with it ...

ECU don’t need constant power. The only critical time is if they are writing to memory and you kill all power (not ignition off) during this process and you happen to corrupt something. But even then you really have to try hard as in themselves vehicle ECUs are quite hardened and difficult to kill.

As you can tell I’m not a OMG throw up your hands and run to the hills, dorothy dinosaur, when it comes to a wee bit of tech.

With everything going on in the world at the moment and the re-introduction of battefield nuclear weapons by the US, it seems fairly likely we are going to see some form of thermo nuclear use within the next 5 years.

What is everyone’s contingency plan to keep ECUs Alive during this? Should we buy spares and keep them in a lead vault? Or have a contingency plan to bypass the ECU.

Nah, China will just threaten to switch off the world's iphones, and then watch the snowflakes blubber and cave in!

Assuming you are far enough away from "ground zero" it's got to help surely ??
The shed would need to be covered in a fairly fine conductive mesh that would have to be tested to band filter ALL possible frequencies that the EMP could produce. It would have to be properly earthed and tested. All gaps etc would have to be covered, with conductive tapes, for perfect continuity, including stuff like roller door tracks etc, etc.

Just because you have a metal framed shed on a pad of concrete with some weldmesh reo in it, doesn’t make it a faraday cage capable of withstanding an EMP.

That's the damnedest thing about battlefield nuclear weapons, there will be loads of little ground zeroes all over the shop. I once read that the US military were seriously considering nuclear hand grenades until it was pointed out that the major snag there was finding someone daft enough to throw them.
