Kelso tup sale.

Stores are a lot cheaper up here, especially the last couple of weeks, good texels making 55£, would be making 60 odds 3 weeks ago, something is drawing them down.

My grandad always said a tup is worth the price of his first ten lambs sold. I sold 20 lambs on monday at 86.50 each. So that would be 865. Cant remember the last time i got a decent tup for 3 or 400 quid.
You always have to have a second and third choice, because you can bet your life some bugger with a fatter wallet will bid your first choice to over £1000.

What's folk going to be paying for tups this year, as lmbs are now back in price, surly tups will follow, 300/400£.
yea like last spring , didnt notice anyone paying more for rams last autumn lol , in line with finished prices , what you have to remember is your buying tups at the lowest selling point for lambs every year , i recon decent sh tup (not an overfed panter) should av about 6-7 fat lambs according to when you sell , thats approx my pricing off farm for commercial tups grass reared with a few oats mid summer on and most commercial men seem happy with that , well at least they keep coming back .

In the past if that’s anything to go by-

Fat lambs a good trade-tups cheap
Breeding sheep a good trade-tups cheap
Fat lambs a bad trade- tups dear
Breeding sheep a bad trade-tups dear

Why?
No idea!

Tup sales do the opposite of breeding ewes. As far as I can remember it's always been the case.
Ewe trade is up so tups will be a little easier on the year.

First Cheviot catalogue came today for Lockerbie next week - last year the Upstart was £350, this year it's £250 if that says much

Is that adjusted because of this years potential trade? Or because too many didn’t get set away last year?

I should correct my previous post - £350 was the Upstart 2 years ago, I just remembered I wasn't there last year

I'm not sure, but you're probably right with maybe too many failing to reach the price
That’s usually what happens. To higher upstart stops folk bidding.
I’m definitely into the wrong breeds if you can pick tups up for that money

Was it not a park type that you bought a couple of years ago ?
Is the experiment being carried on this year ? I’ll be there in a fortnight for the hill Cheviot sale !
