Those of us who live in the south east have been concerned for some time as to what will happen after 1st January and the realisation that there will be up to 7,000 trucks queuing every day waiting to clear Customs and get to Europe is now accepted as a reality. Gove in his wisdom has suggested that those of us that need to go into Kent will have to have a permit. I am sure @Wooly who lives right on the Border will be getting ready to man the blockades and possibly issue permits or provide parking at a cost for those not allowed in. I had a warning letter recently about concerns for Ashford market and how trucks loaded with livestock will be able to have priority getting in and out of the market, however it was accepted that this may be difficult to put in place. Whatever your views on Brexit this will be the pinch point that causes massive issue for trade. What is also not calculated are the numbers of trucks coming in every day that will not have the correct paperwork! Most of the drivers are eastern europeans who can speak a little english but certainly cannot write it and have never had any experience of crossing a national border and the restrictions that will apply. Don't come to Kent in the first few weeks of next year!!
