Kexxtone boluses

Hi, has anybody out there used these boluses?
Might be a daft question ,but, do you fold the wings inside the gun or leave outside and just push down the throat?
Were they effective?
Thanks Howard

I don’t use as many as I did, only on problem cows ie: old,fat cows and anything with twins.

Biggest gripe is finding them half full :banghead:

And floating on the lagoon:banghead:
But those wings are supposed to stop them coming out........................I tried some when they first came out ad have found most of them in the fields since.

Use a fair few. They do have individual numbers on so when we administer we make a note of the number and the cow. So if you do find one half full just put it back in. Very good product and works well on this particular farm.

It’s a hard one to back up as so many variables forage etc but they are a good product, I started using them at a time when my dry cow and calving accommodation was under pressure as I had a glut of cows calving never stopped using them since, another bold claim is I think they probably give the best return on cows that would of transitioned ok anyways as they just fly higher for longer

You think you get your money back even if the cow wouldn’t have got ketosis?

We are doing a trial with the vets where they select any cows that have had issues in previous lactation wether that’s rfm, cystic Or the obvious ketosis, also the condition score far of dry cows and will select over condition cows for the bolus. The vet Tec then administers the bolus our on farm.

Of which I only pay for the bolus cost.

Yes they work well. Very well in fact.

Haven't used any this year, not sure about last.
As ever with this sort of thing I would prefer to work towards reducing the reasons for needing them, rather than them becoming a protocol.

Only ever found empty casings, I would be most miffed it I found a half full one.
