kidney stones

Been there, done that. Got ambulanced going in to shock from the pain, sent home because the pain had gone and they hadn't got time to x-ray and thought it must have passed. Two days later back in,the stone was stuck three inches down from the kidney.Kidney damage and had to stay in for a week before moving to get it smashed with ultrasound

Doc says once you've had one you're very prone to more. Lad after me for the ultrasound ( lithotripsy ) had got SEVENTEEN wedged in the kidney. I've had one smaller one since but it stopped in the same place as the first, probably from scarring. Not as bad as the first but still had to be smashed in place before passing gravel

I had a flow of what looked like pure blood a few weeks ago, this just after getting blood and urine tests. There was a brief hesitation mid flow as if passing a blood clot, then normal flow resumed again (but blood). I panicked after consulting Dr Googe (blood in urine is apparently a symptom of prostate cancer) but the doctor said it was probably just a small kidney stone. Urine reverted to normal colour in a couple of days. I have had further blood and urine tests since, then an x-ray and an ultrasound, all apparently normal. Now they want me to have a cystocopy (video camera crew up the penis!) which I am not at all keen on for obvious reasons as everything seems normal. Any comments? I am 80 but pretty active.

They will use local anaesthetic gel I would think.

My main concern would be prostate cancer but they will already be screening you for that.

painfull little devils . just keep drinking plenty...... I find cranberry juice helps quite a bit ,.Run out of that i go on to a few pints of Timothy Taylors Landlord
Asked my consultant about all the lemon juice and cranberry juice theories and he just laughed! Takes months to form a stone and a bit of fruit juice for a fortnight isn't going to make any difference other than maybe stopping an infection. Did recommend a few pints of beer to relax the tissues and flush out. Wouldn't give a prescription for it though ☹️

Be alreet, folks get catheterised all the time and generally its ok. Not sure I would want to be pulling it out myself mind but apparently it happens. You would think the balloon would stop it.

Yes, I've had it a couple of times before when my prostate was zap. Not my choice for a jolly afternoon especially as I don't think it is necessary. I flat said 'No' the first time they told me but I've been talked around to it. Surely, something would turn up in urine but they did not even ask for a sample when they took blood?

I would have thought whats in your blood would end potentially end up in the urine too but perhaps your blood didn't show anything so they are checking lower down the chain so to speak.
