Riding can be a bigger problem if you mix sizes or different groups. Getting cover on them can be a problem so check if that would be a penalty before you send them, and you need them away before 16 months if going deadweight.Ouch sorry to hear, yes i was always brought up being told to never to trust a bull.
How do you go on with group sizes? Is there a limit to stop bullying from happening or are they ok?
How does that compare with other dairy cross breeds and proper beef as well please?I’ve just deleted my post as I misread the title as dairy rather than BB x dairy
KO 52-54%
Grades O and R
Blue x dairy in general should be slightly better KO than other beef x dairy breeds but there won’t be that much in it. Friesian steers could be as low as 48% but generally closer to 50%How does that compare with other dairy cross breeds and proper beef as well please?
Does anyone do dairy bred blues off a forage based diet here in the UK on here?
If so, can you still achieve reasonable growth with them or do blues only really do on a hard fed diet like cereals and such?
They dont need to be on ad lib cereals, but they need feeding hard in the last 2-3 months.Hardly ever get any fatter than a 3 either, should all grade 0+ or better.Think ya would struggle with blues unless on adlib cereals
How much cereal would they need in the final 2-3 months? Would a TMR type ration be capable of acheiving a decent enough fat cover? They dont need to be on ad lib cereals, but they need feeding hard in the last 2-3 months.Hardly ever get any fatter than a 3 either, should all grade 0+ or better.

That will work well for growing them but you will get no finish on them without cerealsDoes anyone do dairy bred blues off a forage based diet here in the UK on here?

A TMR ration including say 6-7 kg/hd of barley and a yeast balancer should work, forage maize would also be good. How much cereal would they need in the final 2-3 months? Would a TMR type ration be capable of acheiving a decent enough fat cover?
