Killer Creep Feeder

Unfortunately I am somewhat of a lamb creep death expert!
Strangulation, suffocation, acidosis, even had the wind blow over a creep
Killing the lambs sheltering behind it . currently using four different types of
creeps . normally u get problems when the grass is running out and to
many lambs are want to eat at once. I wonder if there is something
wrong with the other creep, like dirt in the trough or the bars in the
right position making the lambs favour that creep?

Texel or BFL being fed copper leading to copper toxicity?
Chucking ideas into the breeze but as others have said if it a significant proportion of your lambs you need to take at least one fresh casualty for a pm.

What sort of feeder is it. Post a pic? Should think if they were suffocating they would still be in it once dead. If they were able to get out they would have enough life left to keep breathing. It could be clostridial and just a coincidence they lay up there and died. Doesn’t take long to succumb.

An unpleasant thought but someone’s not using them for target practice are they.

Do lambs go downhill slowly or just drop dead? I mean generally not the ones murdered by the feeder in this thread.
My goslings go downhill over a few days or even a week. A sure sign is when they go into the shed for a bit of cover. Just thinking the feeder might be your lambs version of a shed/shelter.

Blue one in the pick up is the culprit. Red one was the other in the field that claimed no lives. Replaced on Sunday with head in only round feeder.....no casulaties.....so far

Less than 60 lambs now, I wouldnt say over crowded and they are never empty only ever topped up. Plenty of young grass. What is bugging me is why one and not the other. Why this particular one feeder. I know I should send one to the lab but it's been a long bank holiday weekend here with serious heat and they are past ripe. If they're is a next one it's going up straight away.

Pure speculation: see the way there’s a wedge shaped hole in the metalwork on the red one. Could they have wedged their heads in there and strangled themselves? From the photos the blue one looks complete.

Blue one is higher at the front than the back. Red one lower at the front. Possibly lambs are jumping on each other to get in because they have the headroom?.
I have 2 of the blue ones with a rail welded on that lambs go below it and leave verticals well spaced and dont get any bother.
