I have made the mistake of spreading horse dung, that was riddled with docks, in one of my fields. What would you suggest is the best way to kill them off? I would like to keep it as grass for hay.

You can spray off seedling docks easily & cheaply enough, if you're not concerned about clover and such like.

My sheep will eat them if the docks don't get too big, but they won't kill them, and the OP wants to make hay on the field.

Glyphosate while the docks are still vegatitive then cut it for hay?
I’ve got docks in my lawn. I thought weekly cutting would sort them out...... it didn’t. Glyphosate and a paint brush was the answer.

Take a picture showing the dock population and quality of the existing sward and I will tell you whether to put it into spring barley or just spray with grassland sprays. You shouldn't be spraying grass of merely because of grassland weeds.

The last thing I want is them spreading. There is nothing to see at the minute, but come the spring it looks more like a dockland field rather than a grassland field.

A go with Doxstar or forefront even if you do it twice will be cheap compared to ploughing it. Is it docks from roots or are they from seed? Can't spray them with anything at the minute anyway as it won't work a jot with it being so cold.

@ollie989898 is right if you want to sort it and have the pockets for it. The next best thing will be a generic fluroxypyr like minstrel.

Two goes with minstrel +/- adjuvant and good steady spraying will probably work well if it is done in warm conditions and the docks are growing hard. Just be aware that fluroxypyr is a weird chemical with a narrow spectrum of weeds.

I don't think the OP has stated if they are just seedling docks or not- I would need to see the problem to know where I would go with it. If it is a few seedling docks in a new ley half a litre of minstrel would work fine- £fudge all.
If it really is a crop of carrots masquerading as an army of docks, I'd be going for the Dow products.
