King Thistles

I was using the ride on mower yesterday doing the lawns and an area outside the garden fence. In the fence line there's a spear thistle, about 3' tall and in flower, I quite like it. I remember my late father referring to king thistles, I suppose that if you had too many of them they'd be f**king thistles.

My mum grows some of the less spiky ones on her garden I was there the one day knocked the tops off 3 or 4 not knowing any better she hit the bloody roof still can’t quite fathom how she paid money for a thistle

Bees love the flowers , its a real bee puller,( that's if there's any Bees left)

Later on Goldfinches come for the seed, theym a real bird puller

Apart from that they are the most injurious, blinking barstewards of the lot.....

My Dad used to call them buck thistles.

In a particularly exasperated mood with somebody one day he said “he’s bloody useless, needs f**king with the stem of a buck thistle “.

He was quite the wordsmith.

That's tiny! I've been given a paring hook before, and told to thwack thistles that were 5ft tall!

I absolutely love the prickle-free wild thistle.

Agree with primm that’s no big thistle there’s a farm I go catching rabbits on and dunno if it’s the soil or what but they can grow a thistle 3 foot round by 4 to 5 foot high with stems 3 or 4 inch thick

We used to get sent out thistle cutting as kids, used to like felling the really tall ones, had to swing at them and run in case they fell on you
