Looking at buying a second hand post driver. I like to look of the Protech P200s but I have been offered a nice spec fully refurbished Kinghitter, what are they like?
It has: Hydraulic top link, side shift, rock spike, 250kg weight.

Thanks.

If you decide against the king hitter I wouldn't mind the details please.

That's not me recommending the king hitter by the way over the protech? . I just want a machine as a backup and p200 might be too good for what I want.

No worries, I'll probably have a look at it and then make my mind up. What do you think it would be worth? He doesn't know the age but it's had a fair bit of work done to it. Some of the rams resealed and 're rodded, new bearings on the pulleys, full respray with marine undercoat and top coat. Its a good spec one, from looking online I'd say it's a series 3 deluxe

Value will be dependent on spec, more options/features then more value. Second hand ones do hold a bit of value but they need to be tidy to be worth any money as they all wear out. If it's had a bit of work already sounds like it could be at the worn out stage and needed a bit spent to keep it working or maybe it's just been looked after.

King hitters haven't been sold over here in any great number for a good few years so it'll have a bit of age and probably wouldn't have been that expensive new compared to today's equivalent.

Ah right ok, are you able to get spares for them? It's sounds like he has done the work that needs doing and it's ready to use. So it's side shift, hydraulic top link, rock spike, 250kg weight.

He wants £3250 + VAT

You should be able to get spares I'd imagine. Hydraulic system will be standard. I'd look into where to get the wire rope as it'll wear. The rest is fairly simple engineering. Metal welded together.
Without out knowing age or condition, I'd say it was priced a little strong. If you priced up a new protech you wouldn't be a whole lot more, well maybe double?, But availability might be a while.

Yeah ok. I imagine that spec you'd be around 10k these days? I was looking at how much extras are on new ones and a Rock Spike adds £1100!

If its of any help when we bought our p230s we also looked at a p200s new as well. We were quoted around the 4k mark brand new for a p200s without a rock spike directly from Protech about 3 years ago. I would definitely recommend a call to Andrew at protech as he can give you a price inc discount delivered to farm from Gloucestershire. Can't remember how much a rockspike was extra but I think it was £750 - £1,000

I also didn't mention it may be worth considering a p230s as well as they are a big step up from the p200s. They can be had with a bigger 300kg weight (Ours does), the 500mm of telescope is a lot better than 300mm from the p200s and the pulley weight system is far superior for both control and increased drop speed. The telescope is definitely a huge benefit if its on a bigger/wider tractor to allow for side operation and clear the back wheels. Personally we also prefer the protech style of knocker which has slew and boom over sideshift as it makes all the difference when you're trying to get into a corner or around a tree (Helped even more with the compact pulley system on the 230s), where you can back the tractor up and the knocker does the rest. If your interested the p230s is around £1,000 more than the p200s with the larger weight and otherwise same spec. Below is a picture of ours when it was new to give a sense of scale and what you get for the money (TM155 tractor for comparison)

How do people rate the protech 300s , I can buy one secondhand , has the rock spike and hydraulic counter weight . In good condition , what’s it worth . Any pit falls to this model.

Excellent machine, mine has 300kg weight, rock spike, and hydraulic front legs. Just watch the 3/4 hydraulic return pipe, it came with a standard 1/2 fitting to plug into spool, no good at all as the oil was overheating so I changed to a 3/4 coupling and plugged into the power beyond return on tractor which is 3/4 , never had a problem since, and the weight drops faster too. Even with slowing down the oil flow from spool the oil was backing up and getting hot, my machine has 9 spools to control machine, also watch the total weight of machine, nearly 2 ton,

Any idea on the value of a good secondhand one.
