many farmers are very resistant to any environmental or green message.
ESPECIALLY on TFF I’ve noticed.

agriculture is just as big a problem as transport, manufacturing, fossil fuel industry, electricity generation, over population etc etc

“arrogant and entitled” sadly sums up the aversge British farmer right now

MO It all stems from bad leadership who are incapable of accepting blame for anything

One thing that bugs me, and it’s going to sound very harsh, and I’m no perfect picture, but Gabe Brown, I’ve read his book and really enjoyed it, he is a pioneer and champion of regen ag and the production of the very best and healthiest of food, set to cure us of all our ills..... how come he’s so obese? It’s not a great advert

looks like he has lost a bit of weight in the film though
He blames travelling and eating shite food in airports and on planes I think I heard him say somewhere.

One thing I thought it was a bit farmer bashy in the beginning.
It's not all farmers fault that the pursuit of cheap food had led to where we are now. Everyone who eats food grown on a conventional farm is to blame not just the farmers they are the ones voting with their wallets. And government food policy is to blame as well. Probably corruption from chemical companies as well :censored:
Overall a good watch though.

tbh - I don’t see the connection . . .

he might drink a lot of beer, or just like lots of glazed donuts. . .

after all, he is American . . .

Producing “healthy” food doesn’t mean he has a good diet or healthy lifestyle, even if he does eat his own produce he could still be eating a lot of sugar & shît

You don’t see the connection? Really?
Promoting methods of ag for producing the healthiest of food, among other benefits, and then potentially shunning it all for beer and fast food (I’m not saying he does, but for the sake of your argument), does that not have a slight whiff of hypocrisy?

I’ve known cancer patients to be thin, doesn’t make them healthy . . .

just because Gabe Brown is a fat shît, I don’t see how it has any relevance to his obviously very successful & regenerative farming practices ? ? ?

imagine how fat he would be if he used 200 kg / ha of synthetic N & glypho 😄🤪😮😳

IS it relevant to comment on his physical appearance ?

REALLY ?

I wonder how attractive his wife is ? Or isn’t ?

pretty much all americans seem to be obese !

I've been to Gabe's farm about 10 years ago (went on my own not as part of a group so I didn't get any "presented version" of anything) and he's a really nice bloke - he also likes a can of coke for breakfast! Also met Neil Dennis there for the first time - such a shame he died because he would have been great on tv, he was so funny. I've also spent a bit of time over the years travelling and speaking to various people who were pioneers in the world that now seems to be called "Regen Ag" but I don't really call it that.

BUT! - this is something we all do and we all select the best of ourselves for scrutiny or promote our message and you have to remember that isn't the whole picture, its a version we want to portray. That's human of course. So my point s never be afraid to scrutinise anyone a bit deeper - a film is only giving you a version of what it wants to convey - there are other issues in the background that make some things happen better than others.

If I did a video on my farm I would also be showing you my good bits. My 4t/acre second wheat on a field that was no tilled for 10 years and had hardly any inputs. I may choose to turn a blind eye to the failed oilseed rape or the 1.5t acre fat hen/ barley mix!! I love the farming vs the environment debate even though it is a bit shrill at times though

I haven't watched the film yet but I will later on. I do think we are developing a bit more towards understanding ecosystem function a bit more nowadays though

Big generalisation I'm going to make now but actually in the midwest their supply of fresh fruit and veg is pretty poor. Shops never really prioritised it and any veg or fruit was usually a bit crap. Healthy eating habits start young

No eucalyptus much or too dry? What was the last native grazing animal? When did they die out?

eucs ( or any tree for that matter ) don’t really establish on these deep alluvial self mulching / cracking black soils on the plains, except along water courses & low lying areas. They just don’t germinate or establish very well on these soul types, due to the physical nature of it. That’s one of the reasons grasses are / were the dominant vegetation. Elsewhere, some euc species are classed as invasive woody weeds & can really take over & dominate an environment
It all depends on the soil types, geography & location, as well as rainfall

as to the last grazing animal, kangaroos graze very similar to sheep ( nibble close to the ground ) & apparently, their numbers have increased significantly during the 20th C ( although the last 3 years would have taken a big toll on them ) as humans have greatly increased the amount of watering points in country that naturally would have had very little surface water available

Speaking for myself, *some* environmentalists are out to do away with me and my type of farming. That being hill farming on peat based soils. They often present themselves as the farmers best friend. Talking about "just transitions" and how if we'd only change we'd be the best off "farmers". Yet when pressed, or when examined in detail their proposals in relation to the families involved do not stand up to reality. What they're about is cheaply buying control of peoples farms by payments over a relatively short period of time. The result is an actual phasing out of these families ability to generate any type of income from the lands they own.

That is not to excuse any wrong doing on farmers parts. But, if the solution to the electricians problem on a building site is to push the plumber off a roof, and you happen to be a plumber.......

Nah

I couldn’t care less to be honest

it’s more about the bigger environmental picture as far as I’m concerned

Anyway, as far as Americans go, he’s probably average size
I think the picture is bigger than just the environment, it is all encompassing, human health was mentioned specifically in the video.

His size doesn’t doesnt have anything to do with how he chooses to farm, that wasn’t my point, but obesity is not healthy, probably has a lot to do with the higher death rates due to covid in the UK and US, and the whole regenerative ideal is surely strongly linked with overall health and well-being?

I think you are making a fair comment. However I haven't found Gabe preachy in the past so unless he is saying "do as I do" it is different to "look what I'm trying to do". Haven't seen the film yet so will see how preachy it gets!

No he’s not preachy at all, I like him a lot, I’m just being a bit critical, just think it would suit his message a bit more if he was a healthier weight, I could do with losing weight myself, but I have been a fair bit heavier too and it’s no fun.
