Kiwitech fencing PAC

Anyone using one of these? Thinking about something to make fencing winter runs a bit easier. Currently just using geared reels.
2 strands is plenty for my ewes in winter but sometimes put out 3 for ewes with young lambs if there’s no hedge behind the fence. If I buy a 3 reel system can I just run an empty reel when I only want to use a 2 wire system.
I would likely go for a vehicle mounted kit so that I could put it on my quad. I like the idea that I can lift it off and go and do a bit on foot if needs be.
Any down falls with them?

the wait once youve bought?

only seen them used on foot myself - look good bits of kit if your into the whole kiwi system - ie the reels/posts/reeler etc
i think the posts are epic - the reels and system great but less so the wire (braided is the only way to go really)

Long waiting time on them?
I currently use hotline 9 strand poly wire which I’m happy with, I would continue using that on kiwitech spools. I would need to think about using different posts.
I have recently ordered fibreglass posts something similar to the kiwitech ones but half the price, just to try them and see how I get on with them

brexit/covid importing from the wrong side of the equator...(sorry!)

the cheaper fibreglasds posts are good - i recently bought some - the wire clips though (not the metal types) the plastic ones are not daily move friendly as very hard to remove the wire i find, but very adaquate for semi-perm lines. i think the kiwitech ones are more superior so far. for sheep i prefer the rappa plastics for daily moves.

I have a powerpac which is brilliant. I use 1 or 2 wires, and for sub division fences only, not perimeter fences. It makes the job so easy, great for setting up corridors for moving stock too.

It is heavy and puts strain on the front rack. Just had to strengthen my king quad.

I didn’t realise they made such a thing, had to google the power PAC to see what it was. Watched their video of it. Looks like a fairly sophisticated piece of kit

You can run it with 1,2 or 3 reels on it. If i was starting again I'd go all kiwi tech.

What's the advantage over a Rappa system?
It looks like it's ok for short runs but not so good for fencing an 80 acre block?

design and lightness, and posts will last longer in sunlight than rappa (although weve got 25 yr rappa posts still cranking)
rappa reels are bombproof - not so sure of pac though..
rappa seem to get them from somewhere else as ive seen them in the US under a diff brand.
If they last longer than Rappa stuff they will outlast me !
I've not seen the Kiwitech stuff in operation but it looked like it was suited to short runs rather than larger uses?
Many of my runs would be 600 m or more (one side of a field) ---

No reason the Kiwi tech gear couldn't be used on long runs, although I think the longest poly wire reels you can get are 400m so they'd need joining. The auto pull up of the power pac would be great for long runs.

I would be going from using geared reels with 400/500m on them so it wouldn’t really be an issue here. Unfortunately we don’t get runs of 60 or 80 acres over here so you never have to go far until you have a corner post where you can join in the next reel. The rappa reels must hold a fair bit of poly wire?

How would you get on with the release hooks combined with your existing geared reels? 🤔

Release the wires, whiz the poly in, tootle along sidesaddle and pick up your posts? You could build a holder and guide setup (based on the power pac setup) to put fence out as you go

Definitely nothing wrong with the power pac setup but you would want the "exoskeleton" to save cracking up your front rack, quite a bit of weight out the front corner of the bike

I use High tensile for perimeter fences, and geared polywire for lane dividing. The kiwi tech is used for daily moves and creating temporary lanes to move cattle. IMO it is not sturdy enough for any perimeters

I would likely only go for the normal carried pac system and a vehicle mount so that it could be set on the bike for longer runs.

I hadn’t even considered their end hook system. Currently I just tie a loop at the end and hook it over a screw in insulator. It’s not hard to lift it off the insulator and undo the loop at the end nearest the gate as you go in and then wind up from the far end. We generally only use 2 strands of wire in winter but if you do use 3 it gets slow winding in each reel individually

We have put in a multipaddock system on one side of our place with high-tensile, but probably just going to put the other side into lanes and cut them up with silly-string - I think we might put release-hooks on all the node posts as it'll save a trip when taking the fences down
