Knackered T7 gearbox

had it tested it is the mid range clutch packs torn out, due primarily to over ballasting and pulling an implement with a high draft requirement that was originally on the larger tractors. Live and learn as they say. Guess the HD T7 315 are less susceptible to this?

I'm not saying it was the drivers fault but your foot should be fully off the clutch before the implement is put in the ground, this will save the clutch packs tremendously.

But the answer to field work is Autocommand, there's no wearing parts when moving off like a power command gearbox.

the Americans are pretty religious about not power shifting with high draft loads in the ground and making sure you are running above 1800rpm.

Well I’ve not ran a power shift box since the Crystal 12045 but I used to start in low then bang it into high at full power for years.. what’s the use in a gearbox that you can’t shift under hard load? The gearbox should be fit to kill the engine under all conditions..

Use a wide enough headland so can turn without a 3 point turn

I learned this with a roadless which had a clutch that took all my strength to push down at 13 years old
once we had tramline worked in lands

now with gps and doing alternate or every third bout reduced headland turn

auto power now used for backing mole drainer into the ditch and setting off smoothly where the field is not drain with spurs to the hedge for 100% mole coverage

Just stop!

We were warned ours would fail and it did. If you keep using it will weld itself together and cost much more to fix.

Think it was low range went in ours. Did all 3 when they had it stripped down. Ours had done 5.5k hours. Was 6.5k to fix if I remember correctly. That was new Holland dealer. Several years ago.

@PSQ Had a much worse outcome.
A bargain at £6.5k

One of the T7 260 has suddenly, whilst ploughing lost drive in all but the very lowest gears. It works hard in 12th and 13th gear and to me it sounds like the clutch packs have gone - although I have not actually seen it. The error code I am told is 2385.

What are my options? Are these boxes rebuildable by the local dealer, or is it an exchange unit job ? I bet not cheap either way !
Trade it in now

Get autocommand
Far cheaper to fix

Plenty of jobs that aren’t high draft. I’m talking subsoiling or running deep ripping type stuff. You would never pull away on the clutch with a subsoiler in the ground. So you shouldn’t be power-shifting.

On the old steiger you never dropped the solo or discs till up to speed and stayed in the same gear all day

Using the auto functions where the tractor maintains engine revs and speed by changing gears on a power shift is a sure way to knacker the clutches and is feature designed to ensure dealers fitters are kept busy IMHO. It’s a banned practice to use it here, you need a tractor with enough engine torque for the job and so to remove the need to change gear under load. Not saying that is the reason for the failure on this thread but it’s a result of the electronic era where you can shift gears all day without realising it’s happening. They don’t over engineer things either, every part is made to a price. Dont get me started on service intervals !

Bought a mower off Swinnerton machinery mod season and got a full tour of the workshop.

They had all the gear and loads of the big cnh tractors split for various gearbox problems.

Explained problems and solutions around the ones in the workshop, showed us the custom made tooling for the jobs, honestly was so impressed.

We've moved away from nh, it if I was your situation I'd send it there without a second thought.

What sort of warranty do you get on repairs from them?
