Knight Sprayer Compressor Oil Change.

Had the pump out of our 2008 Knight 21Metre mounted sprayer over the winter to change the diaphragms and decided to change the oil on the attached compressor (It has air shut off) The oil that I drained out looked black and sticky like tar.
Emailed Knight to check what oil to use but got no reply so just used compressor oil we use in the workshop compressor which is alot lighter than what was in it.
Anyone know whats the correct oil to use as I don't want to wreck that compressor as it looks like it could be expensive to replace. We only have the sprayer a couple of seasons so first time doing this.
TIA

I was always told compressor oil. They are useless, mine wore its piston rings and they can’t supply only the rings so it’s a whole new compressor if it stops blowing off eventually!
