Kramer vs JCB

Reviewing loader options at the moment.

a decent 2nd hand JCB (531 - 70) about 3 y r old with 3-4000 on the clock is mid 40's

a new one is about £80k im told

how do Kramer compare? prices seem similar new.

will do about 500 hrs per annum mostly loading lorries and yard work.

was looking at second hand but new does not seem daft for the price.

always had JCB and so would have to get a head stock fitted to the Kramer.

any thoughts welcome!?

I didn’t say they were cheap, just relatively speaking a new jcb is not a daft idea.

we bought new many years back and kept it 20 years, didn’t owe us when we sold it. Doubt a new one will keep going that long, electric gizmos bound to have some say it!

Whereabouts are you based? I have both a 531-70 Agri Super (2018/4300hrs) and a KT407 (2019/1500hrs) in the same yard near Oxford if you would like to come and view them side by side?

Different machine altogether 6m reach and less power.
Punches well above it's weight though, and a big cost saving over the slightly bigger capacity machines. It's also significantly cheaper than the OP's new price estimate.

I certainly wouldn't walk past it to buy the OP's used option of a 4000 hour machine well past the warranty for mid £40'000's, no thanks.

That's my point. looking 10 yrs, spend 45k on a 4000 hr machine or 80 on new? im not doing 1000 hrs a yr so in 4 yrs what will have lost the most value...

Been through this recently and couldn't get my head around the prices so we bought a 7000 hour machine for £20,000 fully serviced and with new tyres but with the view yes it will cost us in repairs over another 10 years of 300 hours a year but it is not going to cost £75,000 which is what we would of have to added to the £20,000 to buy a brand new one. Worst case is gearbox and engine but we've since had all the oils tested and an ex jcb mechanic go through it for the sake of £500 and his view is that its spot on. Its ag spec but come from a builders merchants so never seen any soil or muck in its life. Even with another 3000 hours on the clock how much will it drop in value? Not much!

I’m a Kramer dealer so a bit biased.. but the JCB is still a good machine.
We have sold over 80 Kramer’s this year and taken 25 JCB’s in part exchange. The Kramer has excellent build quality and is very user friendly. I believe they are slightly cheaper than an equivalent JCB and very reliable.
Not to hijack thread, but are Kramer parts such as brakes available for a 1999 320 loader? Here in US Kramer is an odd duck, but found a nice machine for sale for reasonable money, just want make sure someone can send me parts!

Still available for a 96 520 from the dealers, so should be available for the 320. The 520 actually uses brake calipers and discs from a Mercedes g wagon, and some VW vans, so readily available elsewhere, at a fraction of the price.
U will rarely use them. Handbrake uses a smaller brake pad, made by textar. Can’t remember what they cross reference to.

Had Scot Agri quote us for a new TM320 the other day. We currently have a tidy 2013 TM320 with just over 4000 hrs, we bought it a year old as an ex demo for about £50k, list price now, 115k, still over 100 with discount. What did they offer us for the old one? 35k, so 70k to change! Be better buying another 2 for spare as a new one!

you Only took out 25 jcb’s because you wanted to get machines out and were considerably keeper than jcb at the time , I think a fair few of those kramers have now gone back against jcb’s.

The depreciation on your original 320 is very reasonably, guessing you bought at 1000 hours, so those 3000 hours have cost £5 per clock hour. Unfortunately the price of the new one is a different matter, what will it be worth with 4000 hours on at ten years old?
