Can you do half shut off with a newish krm spreader, if not , what do you do if you have say 10m left right up the side of a long field? Do they spread 24m each side?

If it does not have section control no. The manual shows where need to turn off to get an even spread. If you have section control it adjusts the rate to counteract the amount of over/ underlap there is by not spreading full width.

It sounds as though the machine is built wrong by not having half width shut off, but I am on my 3rd KRM and in reality it is not an issue.

Slowing pto speed reduces spread width,you will have to guess the rate though

Trade it in for a Kverneland Geospread that shuts off in 2m sections on either side and can also shut off from inside out, will never have another overlapped piece of field!

You can set it for headland (and go the right way) and half the rate.

Bogballe offer section control now. Profi did a group test a year or so ago and the 'section control dynamic" looked to work well enough on their headland tray test.

I use the section control on my KRM. It does seem to work well, there is an auto section control available but I dont have it at the moment.

depends on the model, A trend is stop pto and change disc direction via lever or electronic controller
