Krone mower bed problems

We have a few krone mowers, we bought this 10'6'' trailed mower new, in 2015, it has done a fair few acres but the triples have taken over most of the work the past few years.

Long story short, when changing a module bearing we noticed play in the back idler gear so we took out all the modules and some idlers were worse than others but 90% all had play.

And yes the bed oil is changed annually.

So we stripped out the bed and thought it was just a matter of popping out the bearings and replacing them.

It turns out Krone don't sell the bearing as a separate part, you have to buy the bearing enclosed in the gear even though the gear is perfect. (£££££)

The bearing has a wire type ring that holds it in the gear meaning the bearing has to be cut out as the ring won't let it be pressed out. The krone dealer has been very proactive trying to source bearings for it but so far with no luck as they don't seem to be that common.

What I'm wondering is has anybody else had similar problems, or more importantly, found a replica bearing a locking ring?

It's fairly annoying as we've had a lot of different brands of mowers over the years contracting, and never once had to touch the idler bearings.

Thanks in advance.

do you have a Vernier callipers to measure??
measure the inside and outside and thickness of the bearings
measure the depth of the groove and buy big internal circlips instead of wires
Circlips wont work I don't think, as the wire goes in the groove in the gear and a matching groove in the bearing, so there's no way of getting to it if you get me.

You'd thing circlips top and bottom would have been the logical idea...but not for krone.

The locking rings cost very little.

Those gears aren’t that expensive but I do feel the same about the matter. I’ve replaced my intermediate gears (not all) and the money mounts up. Some play won’t matter it depends how much play you are talking about. I’ve had two of these mowers both worn the bed through to paper thin so you can imagine how many times they’ve been around.
If you find a bearing for them make sure you get high speed ones. Was advised with taarup /Kuhn bed repairs to get high speed in the past

We got the bearings and new wore clips. Will try to find the bearing number but a good bearing stockist ahoipd be able to find them and the clips.

Remove by setting it I over a pipe etc the best fit to allow the bearing to fall into it but close enough to not put alot if pressure on the gear. Hit bearing good square on dirve with a sledge. Wire clip will most likely survive at least 50%of the time.

It can be pressed out but takes alot of pressure before the bang.

£160 per unit (gear and bearing)

There are a few too many £160's needed to build it back together.

Yes, too much play to ignore, the gears weren't running true when turning back and forward by hand

Who did you deal with to get them up your way?

I'll try this now, currently cutting them out bit by bit

Done these type of gears a few times. They press out quite easily and the wire just breaks into 2 or 3 bits.
Buy a set of bearings as posted above with the wide circlips. Throw circlips away and re use the largest pieces of the original wire (assuming you can't get new wire clips). Clean everything up well first and re assemble with some loctite/bearings fit and the wires but straighten the wires a little first so they have a bit of extra spring.

I press the bearings in using vice. Sit the wire in the bearing groove and press in until the wire just starts to nip. Then tap the wire down with screwdriver and it will pop into the gear nicely. Easy one you get the knack

this sounds quicker than the angle grinder. Thanks i'll have a go!

There’s a fella in Lincolnshire could be Northern Harvisters or something similar has a lot of bits on the shelf for such like much cheaper than off dealers I got a crown wheel and pinion for a rake off them quarter of the money might be worth a try if you have a part number handy when you ring
Yes I’ve been into those beds a few times straight teeth knock teeth off for fun done them a few times and a conditioner gearbox too

Think it was dungannon bearings.

Read somewhere that the rings can be made of piano wire 2mm or something
We did struggle to get them pressed out but we managed cutting them out easy enough.

In the end up, the dealer sourced enough bearings from a crowd in Dublin, they came with flat snap rings so we bought a new spring gate which is 2mm wire and suits the job perfect. In the middle of rebuilding atm so thanks for the help!
