As above, we are possibly looking to change from a 4 to a 6 metre power harrow this spring. Do any user's have any opinions on which make is the most bomb proof?. Any thoughts will be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance. Phil

Kuhn, Amazone, Lemken in that order would be my suggestion alot depends on how much power are you putting on the front and do you have any stone. Are you looking at fitting a drill or running as a stand alone unit

Thanks for your thoughts Alistair, we are putting 230hp up front and using it as a straight cultivator and not with a drill. Up till now we had not considered the Amazone or Mashio.

We have a Kuhn and a maschio, both 4m. My opinion I would say these are about the best you can get. Maschio may be a bit stronger but we prefer using the Kuhn because it's easier to set up.

Amazone I know is good. Watch the video of a 3metre on a 300hp fendt on YouTube on their test track!
Maschio have a good name and I think might make an 8m?
Alpego seem to be getting very popular with people running crawlers and quadtracks and I know to 8m so the 6m must be good! A lot of these are combi's too!

Kuhn have a good name again but probably expensive.

Lemken and maschio are 250mm rotors, kuhn and amazone (I think) are 300mm rotors. Smaller ones seem to make a finer job but we're only on light land, think bigger are better on heavier ground as should be stronger. Run a maschio and they're very well built!

Kuhn amazone and lemken are all excellent harrows the buying influence,s would be rotors per meter, price and dealer and price of wearing parts e.g. tines so I would probably go Kuhn for a standalone Harrow but lemken for drilling with.

Alpego very strong up & coming brand! The 6 7 & 8m are top draw. Get one bought!

We bought an Alpego folding AS4 drill a couple of years ago. Never put a foot wrong, will drill into trash, rock or even a muddy puddle. Definitely an up and coming brand. We drill approx 4000 acres per year with one and I would highly recommend.

Maschio would be the Orso

http://www.maschio.co.uk/products/power-harrows/orso-rapido-plus-power-harrow/

This power harrow suits tractors ranging from 120-300hp.

The ORSO RAPIDO PLUS has also been tested to the extreme from running the rotors continuously in a mud bath to check the sealing system, to heavy shock testing by running the machine in quarry whilst carrying additional weight.

When designing the Orso model Maschio introduced a new style double rail barrel bearing that gives high load capacity and up to 30% extended life compared to traditional taper roller bearings.

The

tine system and the
quick-plus-logo-small.jpg
rotor and gear shield system, come as standard on the ORSO RAPIDO PLUS.

Main Features:

  • Cat II
  • 21 Spline PTO Shaft With Cam Clutch
  • Gearbox Speed 1000 rpm
(Using 16-22 gears) Giving 350 rpm Rotor Speed
  • Pin Adjustment For Rear Roller
  • Long Dampened Side Deflectors
  • Rear Levelling Bar With Mechanical Adjustment
  • Rear PTO
  • Rapido Quick Fit Tines
  • Stone Deflectors
  • Combination Version As Standard

Isn't Horsch just a Kuhn bed in a different shade of red?! I'm a massive Alpego fan. I've had all of the aforementioned makes and the Alpego by a long way!!! (6m machines)
