Can't compare with other makes but mine's relatively trouble free, sometimes doesn't cut clean but probably needs adjusted never missed the guide rod. Only trouble is when wet the rod starts releasing after every turn but if sheet damp and not sticking to itself after 1 turn gripper can release before sheet has locked onto bale through pressure iyswim. Time to stop or wrap under cover.

Got an older 7558 here and it seldom gives bother with, occasionally needs a wee adjust or clean up etc but it's a quick and simple set up. Far prefer it to the McHale system.
