Kverneland versus Ovlac plough

I have been committed to Kverneland ploughs for many years, I have had 4 on the trot and love them.
It’s coming up to change time. Now I know they sell at a premium but how much is reasonable?

How much more would you feel a KV is worth over an Ovlac plough?

I have had some prices and even as a confirmed KV man I’m struggling to see the difference. Going to pop along to Halse and have a look at one in the yard. Anyone have any comments on Ovlac?

Resale value, a neighbour/friend has had one for a few years and gets on well with it. It did have to return to spain to be modified but they gave him another plough while it was away.

Personally i would stick with KV, my ploughs ancient and like triggers broom but I'd buy a new KV to replace it as i would keep it so long. Would go for a 300 headstock, mines a 200 and is weakest link.

Whats wrong with your current plough, thats making you want to change it?

Want to go bigger and can’t add an extra leg on current plough.
Agree re headstock, I’m specking a 300 on new plough but currently have 200 headstock like you. I have not had any headstock problems ...... yet, but current plough is only 4F Rev.

Mines a es100 5f so its a fair length. Also sometimes run packomat on it too, so at limit.

Thing with KV is the design hasnt changed at all from my old one! Trip mechanism for wheel etc exactly the same.

The best thing with a new plough is to demo it. We have tried various makes over the years but have always come back to KV or Overum and ended up with a KV for the last two and Overum for the 2 before that. In this neck of the woods thoes two just seem to suit our soils best. That's not to say that other makes are no good but we just couldn't get on with them. The Ovlac may well be cheaper but if you just can't get on with it then the KV is a better deal. Also there will always be a market for a second hand KV but what about the Ovlac.

You need to think outside the box over that side of the water! Have a look at a Kuhn.

Go for the KV i would say , it will hold its value and spares can be bought at any crossroads !! Ihave two ploughs a Vogel and Noot and a kv the vogel is on slats and the Kv is on no8 boards. The parts for the vogel are crazy prices but it is a good plough better in some respects than the kv but my next plough will be a kv for the convience of spares ,not having to order and wait like at present with the vogel . Will try and trade both again a 5 furrow .

Had demo of a 5fr Ovlac a few years ago & it had KV boards & Points on etc etc but in all ways its build wasnt as tidy as the KV.
It wasnt much cheaper neither. Been KV here for last 30year & wouldnt have anything else.
OEM parts are poss the cheapest on the market & thats where you win long term
Just price up sum Kuhn Wearing Parts vs similar KV's
Kuhn Plough poss slightly cheaper to buy but its the parts where they get you.
Ovlac just not enuff out there i guess

Try Dunns ploughs for your V/N parts they'll be alot less than getting them from Amazone !!

Might be worth having a chat with Will who works for b and b if you know any of them as they are on their second one after changing from a Kuhn and he'd give an honest opinion

We find the same. Where a Overum xl and KV on no 28s have worked together , we really can't tell which furr was turned by which plough . I rate the KV higher for ease of use as the Overum needs constant tweaks. The 28s also work better with larger tyres as wheel slip climbs. I rate the Overum far higher with the hydraulic reset . It sits in the ground a lot better than the spring KV although I have pulled a leg off the Overum on a big stone but I think it was just the way it was hooked , pushing sideways rather than tripping upwards .

Think the next plough I demo will be a lemken as see no benefit to paying extra for kv over the Overum . With lemken having hyd reset I'd like to see it working.

I would have liked to have tried a Lemkin but we don't have a dealer close by. I really liked the job the Overum did and the trip legs are better than the KV but we did spend alot of time with the welder on the Overum but I think they are much better now. We have now gone over to using a Pacomat so Overum isn't an option any more.

The main difference between Ovlac and Keverneland is the quality of the materials. I live very close to the factory of Ovlac and here for every Ovlac there are 10 Kerverneland. That yes the Keverneland in the zones of intensive irrigations where it is necessary to till deep they do not want them
